ok, I tested the connection put test light to thin wire and blue wire and they worked as suppose to with key in start and run.

tested blue wire from battery all the way to the connection.

then I took orignal relay out of the black plastic housing, so as to see internal parts. when I squeeze the contact the solenoid pops

right up. but if I don't squeeze it doesn't pop.

one thing I noticed is relay gets hot when holding it,"I assumed"

thats normal.

so if the test light works with run and start, what the heck can it be now.

oh by the way I also put relay in half way so I could test terminals

one with run one with start.

I just don't get it.

thanks Bill

Were the contacts in the relay burned off? They could only be passing enough current to light your test light and not enough to pull up the solenoid. When you squeezed them they make a better contact.

You can get a $6 relay from Radio Shack that will work.

Note that if the original relay didn't work it would not cause it to die after it was running. Once it has started you can pull this relay out and throw it away without causing the engine to die. It's only involved with starting.

I put a new relay in from Larry B and it still doesn't work.

there are 4 terminals in the relay 1 energised for run

1 for start, 1 for ground and 1 for hold.

the supposed ground wire is arching when I test it, know thinking

crimped or pinched, some sort of short.

fuel

I have a brand new never opened fuel solenoid kit from cummins that I can let you have for 180. 00, I paid 289. 00 for it. It is brand new and never opened . It is the upgrade kit with the large solenoid. If you are any wants it I will take 180. 00 plus shipping.

I also have one for a 8. 2 detroit diesel that cost 230. 00 that I will sell for 100. 00 new in box.

There is no connection for run or hold on this relay.
