"When Crew Cab SWB trucks outsell Crew Cab LWB trucks by a HUGE margin, which model do you think Dodge should come out with???"

HMMmmmmm - lessee - both Ford and GM provide both short AND long beds in their Crew Cab trucks, along with available diesels, thus addressing ALL needs of buyers, while DC chooses to offer ONLY a short bed version... .

YEAHhhhhh - that's an EASY choice! ;) :D :D

When it's MY $$$, I don't INTEND to have to "sacrifice" to get what I *really* want and need!

NO DUALLY? No 8ft bed?? They just missed the biggest crowd that was begging for this truck to come out. Everyone wants to be able to fit there family in the truck comfortably (or work crew) and pull the 5er or utility trailer down the road... not happening with this truck. Congratulations to the grocery getters.

PS - yes I know not all who buy this truck will be just grocery getters so spare me the evil lashings =)

Just as soon as Dodge obtains unlimited production capacity, I'm sure they will come out with a pickup bed from 2' to 10' in 1" increments so they can get every potential buyer and make them happy.

Until then, they will have to continue to muddle along making decisions based on market demand and limited production capacity ... .

If you think LWB Crew Cabs outsell SWB Crew Cabs, you better do some more research.

After sleeping on it, it's not as bad as I intially thought. With different tires, some accessories, it would look good. Like everything, it will grow on people. Dodge isn't known for being conservative, especially in the looks department. I'd buy this current configuration in 1/2 ton for my wife if it came w/ the cummins. I'd think of it as a replacement for the Suburban, just put a shell on it and it would be good to go. That really is a nice cab! It's about time!

One more item I didn't see anywhere else was this:

"separate rear A/C and heating outlets", from the pickuptruck.com write up.

Also, as several sites noted, a factory power sunroof and power rear slider will also be available.

Its a good thing Ford or Chevy doesnt have to wait for those peski production lines to sell 8' beds and duallies which has been an option for how many years now? What's there market share? I know you were just being "funny" in your response but it is hardly even close to the fact of reality.

It's the new Cummins V8 diesel :D

In 08 the truck will be all new and so will the motor as I think that is when the contract for Cummins expires. Then Cummins will get the boot for a German motor. Just like they are doing with the Sterlings formerly Fords.

If they did actually offer the V8 CTD in the 1/2 model, I would seriously consider that over an HD. The power numbers on that V8 were pretty decent, something like 300 hp@3800 rpms and 460 lb-ft @ 1700 to 2200 rpms, IIRC. All that in a much lighter truck could be pretty nice. But IFS blows, so maybe not for me. But they would sell, that's for sure.

I like the looks of them and with my 2 kids that are growing, the extra room of the Mega cab is going to be awesome. One drawback though... ... I need an 8 foot bed. Just cant win. If I wanted a shortbox grocery getter I might look at an Avalanche or those awful Ford Escape thingies with the 3 foot box and fold out rack! LOL

8 Foot mega cab and you will have 1 more sale!

So when will there be on the show room floor? I wonder what they look like in person with some big wheels and tires, exhaust, tinted windows, and the works? Anybody good in photoshop that could put some bigger wheels and tires on there to give us an idea? :D :-laf

I have no complaint with the looks. It does look kinda funny but that is only because the box is so short compared to the cab. I comend DC for actually coming through with this and answering the screams of people like my family who buy these types of vehicles. I like the reclining rear seats, I love the storage behind the seat and with the rear seat in the upright position I don't thing the C pillar is in the way. I love the truck from the bed forward... . Oo.

But the bed. Dodge has just eliminated a giant market. There are the familys like mine and the trade/construction industry. For the people who use there trucks like costruction workers do two thing come into play, to get all the guys in one truck and to pull there traulers with there equiptment that normally weighs many thousand pounds meaning dually territory. Not only that but all construction workers have 8' 2x4's and drywall, sheets of lumber, all of this stuff that measures 8'. A 8' bed is the industry standard. A short box doesn't cut it. Then there is a family side to it. My family tows. We tow all kinds of trailers and payload. We need the bed size and we need a dually. For example we used to tow a 33,000 lbs trailer for the company Dad works for. We did this for years. The only problem ever being is that there was no crew cab option. What did that leave? Bring on the FORDS! What does the new truck leave in my opinion? If you need a SUV alternative with occational bed use here is the truck, but otherwise, bring on the FORDS! For those that find the LWB crew too long order a SWB or get a extended cab, but PLEASE DODGE HEAR ME, A DUALLY LONG BED IS A MUST. FARMERS, RANCHERS, COUNTRY FOLK, WE NEED BIG BEDS, NO IFS, BUTS OR DON'TS. IT IS THE BOTTOM LINE, END OF STORY.

Apperently more than my . 02 cents. Robert

P. S. When the long beds come out, my family will take two. Until then we countinue to patiently wait. If we have to weight till 08, there will be more Fords sitting beside Moms Excursion.

P. P. S. I like my Cummins, if you want to put a Mercedes deisel in the Rams make it an option, just dont do away with the Cummins. You guys sell alot of trucks that you other wise wouldnt to the Ford and GM crowd.

this is good for me because now if i want to add the larger rear doors to my 03, dodge will have them in stock for BAYER AUTOMOTIVE to do the conversion and make it look right with the longbed. I like the new front end but the interior is ugly except for the seats. now put a nice lift on one with wheels and tires and it might look pretty darn good.

Without the cummins, I wouldnt even want the truck. I already hate new Dodge products as they are. See guys, they are slowly doing away with other companies products and putting mercedes products into their product lines. It makes more sense economically- example- using the new 6spd mercedes transmission over the new venture one. I can guarentee it costs them less to use their own transmission over buying a unit from new venture. Coming soon, a mercedes T-case, mercedes diesel engine... . I would give us 3-5 years max and the cummins will be history. Kind of sad, I already don't approve all the new gadgets on the cummins, the mercedes will only be a more complicated engine.

Just exactly what did I say that isn't fact or close to reality? That Dodge doesn't have the equivalent production capacity to produce the same number of configurations as Ford or that short bed crew cabs outsell long bed crew cabs? Both are facts, what is it that you don't understand?

Well, I needed a new truck since my 2001 2500 got stolen last summer. But, with the fiver I have now, I decided I wanted a long bed dually. I thought about waiting for the supposed megacab everyone was talking about 6-8 months ago, but gave up. Now that I see what they've come out with, I'm glad I ordered the Ford. I know, I know, I'm a Chrysler man to the bone, but they just have not done as good a job as Ford in giving customers numerous options. I miss my '01, best vehicle I ever owned, but the new F350 shows up in a couple of weeks and it has all the options I want. (putting on flame resistant suit in preparation for the onslaught)

His comment was actually pretty easy to understand - while some here are suggesting DC might *eventually* offer an 8 foot bed and a dually, Ford and GM have them NOW - NO waiting! ;)

Don't take things so personally - unless you draw a paycheck as a DC PR spokesman, all discussion here is nothing more than a scattering of varied PERSONAL opinions! ;) :D

It's not personal at all to me, I don't have any vested interest in what others decide to purchase or not. I'm just trying to point out what is likely Dodge's reasoning for deciding to offer the model they did. It makes sense to me so I don't understand those that are saying they shouldn't have bothered if it doesn't have an 8ft bed. Sure Ford and GM offer it, what's your point? Dodge can't match the number of configurations currently offered by the other 2, so they have to choose, they chose the model that sells the best. Those crazy guys.

Like I said, I have no vested interest and will not be buying a new truck until the next full redesign most likely. The guys that are taking it personaly are the ones that want an 8ft bed. That's personaly what you want, not the best seller for Dodge.

I to was holding out for the new Mcab in a LB/ Dually setup, however, last week I made an educated bet that DC would not release the MCab in a LB or Dually in '06. Hence, I decided to just pay cash instead of finance and buy a used ("pre-owned... come on, used is used) 2500 Cummins 4x4 LB, with only 25k miles, to hold me over until summer of 07 when they release the Dually/LB versions. If they wait until '08, I may wait for them as well but will probably go back to Ford by that time.

I agree with all that say it's too bad Dodge is missing the boat on selling a CC as a true 'truck'... avail in a LB, dually setup. It seems obvious that the market for cc swb short bed trucks is saturated, not only from the big three but also from new entrants the Japanese are introducing.

This is what happens when the bean-counters and market strategist consultants make decisions about what will sell the most. It looks to me as though they forgot about all the farmers, haulers, ranchers and hard core towers like need a cc one-ton.

I'm sure for now Ford can rest at night knowing that they will remain #1 in truck sales for the time being. With Ford introducing a twin turbo 6. 5 diesel next year, the race continues. "Hey Dodge: Close but no cigar!"
