I can't believe they got rid of the flat metal floor in the rear. I know it's a small thing, but that turns me off a little bit.

Otherwise, it's a neat idea. Can't wait to see more specs on it.

yea they decided to give to ford

6' bed, 8' bed ... how about just a simple Mega-cab in a Cab & Chassie with straight rails and AT THE VERY LEAST an 9K payload. Then I can put whatever body & lift I want on it. Way is it so hard for them to do that ... I ask you?

There isn't a 5 speed auto in the megacab with the Cummins jsimpson. The 5 speed auto is for the Hemi - and is the same 5 speed auto that's been available since 03 with the gas engine. The Cummins still has the 48re. I covered that in my article - the entire drivetrain is a carry over from 05.

Dodge sure knows how to ruin a good thing. It seems ever since Daimler took over everything has gone out to :-{}

Chysler has been screwing up truck design well before Daimler got involved. When was the last time they offered a real factory crewcab, mid 80's? They started droping the ball back then.

1994 comes around, new body style, no crewcab. 2002, yes Daimler involved now, still no crewcab, just a glorified supercab.

How long did it take for Dodge to sell 1million trucks with the Cummins in it? I think it took from '89 to '03. Ford sold 1 million Powerstrokes from 1995 to 2000(I think these years are right). That tells me that Ford is offering more configurations that buyer's want. Granted, Ford has more fleet sales to increase it's numbers, but that's just another market Dodge is missing out on.

I happen to like the new MegaCab. It would suit my needs perfectly, and the styling is fine with me. It is a shame that DC is still not addressing the needs of the 8' bed market. Investing in another assembly line and wheelbase might put DC in the #2 spot in truck sales(JMO).

ONe point that I have not seen covered is that the reason people buy a short bed in the fist place is for the maneuverability assosiated with the shorter wheelbase. I dont think people simply prefer a shorter bed.

I wonder If they have missed both markets with this model. Turning radius of a lwb combined with a short box.

I'm sure there is a market; i am not in it.

I think the problem with the new model is they are a day late and a dollar short. Seems like they always do that. In 03 with a totally new truck they came out with quad cab smaller than Chev/Ford. Other than the small rear doors, the new 03 quad cab inside is not much bigger and better than my 96 Club Cab. If dodge had any brains, they would in 03 came out with a extra cab, single cab and full size quad cab the same size as the ford and chevy models. However, they didnt do that and now the cab they are making from what I read is going to be even way bigger than the ford/chevy one. Correct me if im wrong about that since i have not looked into this much. It seems like instead of building like everyone else they build at both extremes of the spectrum. If that is what DC is going to do good luck but nobody will buy your trucks. Other than the fleet aspect of sales going to ford/chevy, most people buy those because they have bad visions of Dodge or those trucks other trucks are marketed better. Plus they see then all over so they buy them. Just my take on it. But otherwise, Dodge your too late even if I wanted your new bathemoth, you couldnt give me the new Cummins 600 engine. Only 03 or 04 need apply

what if they are coming up with a new daully semi-mega cab? that is a little bigger than the old quad cab and a little smaller than the mega for the dually to keep it from being like a limo. i cant imagine being in the city with the mega cab dually :( maybe they will improve turning radius. i think this would be a good idea. the type of person that buys a 6' bed is more likely to need a more room for kids. a person who buys a 8' bed needs it more for work. that would be a good compromise. make the 8' version just slightly bigger than the ford.

Megasaurus

If Chrysler really wants to, they can beat out both Ford and Chevrolet with the Mega Cab. The question is..... do they really want to sweep the competition? Do they still have the competitive guts they once had in the the 60's? Only time will tell!!! For myself, I am for Dodge and Cummins!!

I have to disagree with you on the 3rd gen quad cab comments. The 3rd gen quad cab is the same dimensionally, wheelbase and overall length as the GM and Ford extended cabs, it has a ton more room and much easier to access, this is also true when comparing it against the 2nd gen quad cabs. I have a friend with a 2nd gen quad cab and getting in and out is much harder and there is definetly less room. I had a GMC extended cab and there is no comparison for back seat access and room.

I have 2d and 3d Gen QCs...

I wouldn't trade either one of 'em. I really like my 02 for it's brawn and just flat cool Peterbilt looks. But, we love my wife's 03. I'm 5'10" and can sit comfortably for extended trips, but I wouldn/t want to ride in the back seat of my 02. But, there are vast improvements in rear pasenger comfort. I also like the fold down storeage compartments.

But, everyone has an opinion and there is mine.

Happy trails, Wiredawg

Saw Mega Cab In Person

Ugly, Ugly, Ugly QUOTE]

Saw the Mega Cab at the Chicago Auto Show. As my brother and father said, "Looks like it was stretched like a limo. " The rear pillar is way too big and wide.

I have an order in for 2500 Quad Cab, it's like waiting for Christmas. The wife and I fell-in-love with the interior space of my father-in-law's Power Puke. Wanted a crew-cab, but I knew the CTD was the best diesel. Have no regrets ordering the Quad Cab after seeing the Mega Cab. None!

Waiting patiently.

Man, I'm disappointed. I know it is mostly all subjective, other than the 8 foot bed issue, but I don't like the front and I think they went WAAAAY overboard on the size of the backseat. Bigger is not better. Seems they highly overweighted cab size and underweighted the priority of bed size. If they don't get their priorities re-arranged correctly in the next couple of years OR screw up even more by dumping the Cummins, I'll buy used as long as I can and then switch over to another brand. Not saying this won't sell, but from the feel of this thread, WE are the biggest fans of Dodge Cummins HD trucks out there, WE have the biggest pro-bias around... . and if a majority of US still do NOT like it, what does that say??

Just my opinion, of course.

Problem is, the market for trucks is much different than just 15 years ago. My 1990 F150 had what amounted to a padded bust-stop bench with no headrests, vent windows in the front door glass, hard plastic trim all over the interior... vanity mirror? Yeah right. And that was a half-ton. A new Ram offers a stereo better than any my dad has ever had in a car, leather power seats, dual zone climate controls, child seat anchor points (and those are all available right up to one-ton 4x4 duallies), and now a reclining split bench rear seat with the Mega Cab. Pickups have replaced what many of us knew as the old-line full size family station wagon - big body-on-frame cars with V8s that can hold 6 adults and the occasional 4x8 planks of plywood, and tow a reasonable trailer. While Steve's front-page story doesn't mention it,because it doesn't offer the Cummins, there will be a 1500 Mega Cab with a GVWR of 8510. Dodge will probably sell about 60% of all Megas as 1500s because both the cab AND bed are bigger than the F150 SuperCrew. About 65 percent of all Rams are 1500s - that's who DC has to please to make money, not people who actually need a truck to work for a living. In effect, the 1500 Mega Cab/F150 SuperCrew/GM 1500 Crew is the "new" Country Squire wagon.

I sure am glad that DC is not in charge of the Fire Dept. They always show up late with the wrong piece of equipment.

I just saw the pix of the new Mega Cab. WOW! And then the bomb came. No dually and no long bed. It won't play with the cowboys here in Texas... ... ... ... mi dos centavos... ... ... .
