I remember something about the distance between the frame rails being different than a regular 25 or 3500. That would make it considerably harder to mount the bed wouldn't it?

the chassis cabs are 34 inches. . it is possible to mount a regular bed with some fabrication. . I'd be looking for a dumping flatbed any how...

I'm pretty familar with that company. . they seem to be one of th ebest in the megacab long bed converters ... My idea was to use a 5500 with its bigger brakes, much bigger rear axel ,and straight c channel frame vs the megacabs hydroformed box with dog legs and smaller brakes/ axles etc... orderinag al ong bed mega cab from Doug Smith new with warranty is nice mummn... wonder if he could do the mega cab 5500? much more work involved with a cab swap though...

Thanks

Deo
I believe the hydro frame still exsists on the C&C but ends under the cab where the C-Channel begins, it might be easy to do, but to fit a reg bed on a C&C with the Mega Cab might add a lot more to the cost. $50,000. 00 = Mega Cab $50,000 = C&C and $20,000 to put it all together. $120,000 can buy you what you want, but is it worth it, and with no warranty. Sorry, don't mean to step on your dream

I was thinking more a 4x4 st 5500 6spd for 40k , - then a megacab Cab from awrecked or parted truck 2. 5-5k, -& then the chop job hopefully 5 k... so 50k ... hopefully less . . and warranty on engine. . thats more along my train of thought ... . and looking at it 50k is too expensive for me any how. .

Thanks

Deo

I got my 08 done at Innovative Customs in Lehi Ut. $6000. Watched them do it. Excellent job. Done in 3 days (normally 4-5 days). Their welds were better looking than the robotic welds. I can post some pics if someone wants.

Mine is electric blue. Dodge doesn't make that color in a dually, so I changed the axle and converted it to a dually with black steel 19. 5s. When I can afford, I'll change to 19. 5 aluminum wheels.

Garry, when you are ready to switch to Aluminum, I'll be interested in the steel! Send me a email, PLS!!:) THX PJ

Thanks Deo! It's nice having a truck that's functional, yet just different enough that nobody else has one!

PJ when I'm ready in the next couple months, I'll give you a call. I can come to Seattle and let you drive my truck to see if you like them first. They are tuff, but ride rougher than stock. Still worth it to me though.

Garry

Garry, is the ride from the tires being stronger, more plys. I read on some threads to order the lower rating possible in the commercial trie when running a dually and camper. What rating are yours? What tires, too... as if it makes a differnce as I am the begger not the chooser? :>) THX for keeping me in mind. PJ

I have the 245/70 19. 5 (second smallest tire) They're about 33-1/2" tall rated at 4900lbs ea. The 225's are around 3800lbs ea. and are 32" tall. The max inflation on mine is 110psi at 100psi my teeth fell out on the I-5. At 70 psi still rough(empty). I now run 60 front and 50 rear empty and it's fine. I have the Bridgestone M729 drive tire. They are great in the snow!! I went up my driveway empty last week with 8" snow in 2wd on slight hill without spinning a wheel. My dads stock 08 dually needed 4wd.

Garry, You have any images of your set up? Sounds like you have done loads of work getting this truck to your standards. Who's wheels are they?

Hi PJ, I just washed all the salt off the truck the other day, and want to take some pics. of it. As you now, the weather hasn't been very good. If it doesn't rain or snow tomorrow, I'll take some pics for everyone to see. I wish I could afford to have my sidepipes chromed and installed. I'm out of money for a little while now. The wheels are from a guy in Spokane. He had them made in Europe. They look like the steel Ricksons. The only problem is they are not as true as a machined aluminum wheel. When you weld the steel wheels, they can pull a bit out of round I guess. They are also very heavy. But very tuff wheels. The slightly bigger size looks better on the truck too!

CLICK HERE for some crappy pictures of my project.

Garry, Those pics aren't bad and I did see them before. Your whole project is awesome. Those side pipes are really great... are they lined so the heat doesn't melt your shoe? I could see part of a wheel in your other pics. I spoke withthe fellow from Spokane before. He says he uses them on all his trucks for work. Are they really that out of round that it causes an issue. I run a camper and light most of the time, so not having perfect Alum wheels would be better for me, as the steel cause vibration or what?

I had Dodge Dart GT 1966 with a slant 6, TF auto in Electric Blue with white interior, that is when I learned never to get a light color interior... devil to keep clean!

Your truck in EBlue is handsome and outstanding... eye catcher! Windy here today and 40F. Opps! your in CND... 5C

Have a good day! PJ

Hi PJ, yeah I'm still waiting to take some better pics of the whole truck. The color looks so much better on a sunny day though. Keeps raining & cloudy. The vibration is better with the tires aired down to 50psi. Aired up they show every imperfection in the wheel and the road.

In the middle of the sidepipes, I have a 3' section of 3" with about 200 1/2" holes drilled in it. This is surrounded by 4" to act as a bit of a muffler. Your right about the potential heat issue. I wrapped the 4" with heat tape, flared the ends and welded it inside the 5". I don't have to worry about my kids burning themselves getting in the truck. Talk to ya soon!

Robert Patton, editor of TDR has one of the "modified" Mega-Cab long beds. He shows it off in the latest TDR Mag-Issue 59 FEB/MAR/APR 2008.

Finally took some better pictures today!! They're on cumminsforum.com under Mega Cabs only post. The images are not so compressed on their site for some reason.
