The Mega does look a little odd, but from the inside, where I am most of the time, it looks fine! :D

:D I would trade my wife, kids, dogs and my 12 valve and some cash for one of those trucks! Well, maybe not the dogs. My wife works at a Dodge dealer here in Alaska and the first thing that I did was forward her boss this thread to look at! It has to happen sooner or later. :--)

Now we're talking!! And if they would find a transmission (6 or 7 speed)that could handle 750-800'#'s all day long and a GVWR of 35k# I'd buy one right now !!!

Frame strength concern.

I spoke with these folks a few days ago and feel pretty comfortable that they know what they are doing. However, I have some concerns about frame strength after the fact. They cut the frame behind the cab, leaving the rear axle, etc mounted to the frame as is, then add in a piece approx 22" in length. I guess I am worried about the strength of that joint in the frame if you attach a heavy gooseneck to this critter. Can someone please educate me on this? Do you think it will have the strength of a factory setup? Thanks.

Andrew

Will it have the strength??

I guess I wouldn't worry about that, there are guys that stretch semi frames all the time, and have no trouble!!

My 2 pennies!!!

Kadell called me this morning letting me know that he just secured a supplier for brand new longbeds and they're gonna do straight trades for the shortbeds. That will bring the cost of the conversion to $4,500. 00

Are you all satisfied that this will be a strong frame after the fact? I dont know anything about frame work, but I can picture a longer frame inside (maybe 1' on each side) to bridge the gap, and that sounds like it should be pretty tough. comments? Just thinking about future trailer pulling etc... Thanks. .

Hmmmmm, $4500? That's less than the upgrade from gas to diesel isn't it? The wheels in my head are turning... How can I get my wife to accept this as a "need"? Ahhh, I'll probably need to wait a couple years. Maybe Dodge will make it by then... (one can hope)!!!

Not to talk smack, but I researched those guys in Texas, They are a not someone I would like working on my $50,000 truck. I went with Innovative Customs out of Utah. They even provided a certified structure report from an indepentant company. And ask thoses guys to post some pictures of the frame splice!!! I bet you guys will be dissappointed. below are some pics from Innovative Customs work!! #ad

I feel very very satisfied with my decision!!!!!!!!!

I was at the dodge dealer today and the guy asked me if I wanted a megacab I told him only when they make em in a longbed . he claims that they can't as of yet but when i told him there was a company doing them he said something about they are not allowed in Ca. due to weight listed on megacab shortbed wouldnot be the same as a longbed so Ca is fighting the conversion to longbed ? I personaly don't think he knew what he was talking about but then again that would be Ca for ya to try n stop someone from Reg that truck in Ca. To me Dodge is Stupid for not making a megacab longbed they would out sell any chevy or ford .

Benny Boyd Dodge in Lampasas, Texas sells LB Mega Cabs new off the lot... Give um a call. . they can tell ya n e thing u need to know about it... 1 866 517 4880 ... I cant remember who you need to talk to about it but I do know that they sell them...

i cant seem to view your pictures and i am glad you are happy with your choice and so am i

i went with kadell and my truck came out great and i would put thier work up against anybody in the country and i bet i am not dissapointed

you can take all the pictures you want and provide all the paperwork in the world but they have been customizing tractor trailer frames for 30 plus years with no problems so that to me is proof of there work in itself with no question asked period

they will lengthen your frame and give you all new stainless steel brake lines ( with no splices or union fittings) you get a longer balanced drive line and a wiring harness with factory ends on it so there is no cutting/splicing or black tape/connectors in the wiring either

i haul all kinds of stuff with my truck including my camper and a few other things here is my truck

It sounds like no change is made in the front end. I've always wondered (OK, another goofy thing I thinkj about... :-laf )if there is a difference in front end parts (namely knuckle) to accomidate difference in the turning radius for different wheelbases.

my truck is a daily driver i use it to haul the camper and i use it to take kids to school

it has 52 thousand miles on it and has been to new york and back florida and back and been to santa fe new mexico

i have no issues with turning or parking

the biggest kick i get is when people say wow thats to big to be used in my city i say wow you never see a ten or 18 wheels driving your streets lol
