Mega Cab Pic

Ok, figured it out. Had to shrink it a bit. The live webcam has gone offline for some mysterious reason, ;) , but I grabbed this pic before it did.

Oh yeah, from another pic it's obviously a HD (8 lug wheels) and I think it's a Cummins because of where the engine tag is located. Oo.

Also the front is clearly restyled (easier to see from another pic I have, I'm posting them in My Gallery over on the DTR website, but they aren't approved yet) while the rear is clearly the same as current third gens. I was hoping to get the restyled brake lights from the Dakota which I think are much better than the current plain jane brake lights we have. Oh well.

Almost looks to me that it has the same doors as the current quad cab, could be a cost saving measure. Looks good can't wait to see more pictures. Thanks for posting these.

The bed is shorter

From what I have read about this truck, the new larger cab is going to cut into the bed taking about 6 inches or more.

I think we might as well give up on getting a real crew cab long bed from Dodge. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's what I've been seeing.

I hope someone can correct me.

I don;t think you are going to see an * Ft. bed on the Mega-Cab, as they are using the "long-bed" frame. If they were to have an 8 Ft. bed on the Mega-Cab, they would have to re-tool and make a longer frame to accomodate the 8 Ft. bed... ... ... ... and if they did that there would be a considerable cost, as the entire truck would then have to be tested for safety and other things that are required by the Government.

Also, think about how many feet it would take to turn it around!!!

My Opinion,

Sure looks like the same doors as what's available now. It looks like they just made the back corner longer and threw off the proportions. If that's what they did, that's good news for me, means I won't have to go buy a new one.

whats the point. Why build a truck with bigger rear doors, yet a smaller bed? I already see no point to owning a current short bed, let alone a short bed thats even SHORTER than the current one. And if they make a "long bed" version with a 7. 5' bed, then its not a real long bed, and it is just as useless as a short bed.

I think when you see one side by side you will see how much bigger the rear door is. Having said that--I thought from looking that the front door opening was shorter but that may just be because of the rear being so much different.

Please Dodge...

if you have to, stretch the frame, make it beefy, and stick on an 8' bed! It looks like one of those Ford Explorer trucks! Offer it with the shorter bed for those who want that, but for Pete's sake, offer up the big bed too!Oo. I may have to take my '97 to that truck stretching place in Texas!

Glad my 05 is in K status... I do NOT like that new front end at all! And these shots just go to show how stupid the "door only" bodyside moldings really look. My 96 has molding down the entire side, including the dually fenders... my 05 will not have any because of how "afterthought" they look.

Looks like a Dakota with GMC headlamps, horrible. I'm glad I got my 05 ordered.

It was supposed to be built today. :)
