I am not sure where I really should be posting this at, but though I would start here. I am getting ready to order a new truck and up untill last weekend I wouldn't have even considered a Mega.

Here is what the truck will be used for. I am need to replace the 03 from its position of as primarly pulling my LQ horse trailer. We had a daughter last year and need to increase our back seat room, plus we have couple of other adults hauling with us to rodeos that average about 250 miles away. My orginal thought was that the short bed on the mega wouldn't give me enough room to manuver without getting into the back glass. I however last weekend while at Jackson MS saw several trailers that where similar size to mine and even some larger that were all being pulled my mega's. One was by a guy I know pretty well and he had the b&w offset on his and told me he hadn't had any problem being able manuver his.

My question is there any of you that have been down this road and either loved the change or are you paying for it cause you have been into your cab with your trailer.

I have rode considerable distance in both kinds of trucks and while the new crew is considerable improvement over the quad cab, the mega steps the comfort level up to that well rested non road founder level.

As you can see when I buy a truck I expect to use it for a while, so much so that I am keeping the 03 as there isn't anything wrong with it other than lack of room. I only want to do this once.

Thanks

If you're wanting input on the Megacab versus the full Crew Cab, and if you're getting ready to order a new truck, this would get more visibility and input in the 4th generation forum since that's what you'll be ordering.

I went with a Mega and I have had 2 different 5th wheels with his truck. I have not had any issues with the short bed however, I pay CLOSE attention when backing up. At times, I have a spotter watching the tolerance between the cab and trailer. I chose the Mega over the quad cab long bed for the same reasons as you. I have 4 children and I had 2 in car seats at the time. The 3rd gen back seats were pitifully small. I don't regret the decision however, my next truck will be a crew cab long bed as the 4th gen trucks have considerable more room in the back seats compared to the 3rd gen trucks. I also don't have to deal with car seats any more. There is a difference in the back seat room between the 4th gen crew vs. Mega cab. The best advice I can give you is go to a dealership and load your "crew" in both trucks and see if they notice or care about the difference between the two. If they are equally comfortable in both, go for a crew cab and take the long bed. If they are not, a Mega.

Rusty that was my first thought as well but then I got to probably over analyzing it thought that since the mega has been around a lot longer in the third generation than the fourth generation and that more people would have tried the mega in the third generations because of the lacking backseats in the quad cabs.

Hand's down go for the Crewcab after all your the driver what do you care if the back seat's lay back some Now if the mega had a 8 ft bed it would be a real truck but when they only come in shortbed Forget it Sorry if you can't lay or stack a load of 8 ft long stuff in bed and close gate then it's only half of a truck bed .

Look at the crew cab, bigger than the Quad, not much smaller than the Crew. Comes with an 8' bed, and a lot of room in the back seat.

There are a couple of outfits that converted the MEGA CAB trucks into long bed trucks. This is the best of both worlds although the truck might be a little long. The cost seems reasonable if this is what you want.

I have attached a link to just one manufacture.

I would go with the crew, the only reason i got a mega cab was because the crew cab was'nt much bigger than my 01 quadcab, I don't like the short bed and you will regret it too, especially while pulling a load or just hauling in the bed, If i ever get the nerve up, i'm gonna have my mega stretched

Reading your signature, you have a 2007 truck. The "... crew cab (that) wasn't much bigger than (your) 01 quadcab... " is NOT the 4th generation crew cab, which is a full size crew cab, unlike the 3rd generation trucks. The shorty 3rd generation 4 door cab was a whole different animal than the 4th generation crew cab.

whats wrong with a trailer for all of you guys that do so much hauling????? never had an issue hauling anything in the back of my mega, and if it is too big, then you go with a trailer... .

The bed space doesn't bother me much because I am keeping the 03, but I am worried about getting the trailer in to the cab of the truck.

Aint that about what i said

I run an 8" offset in my bed,and when i pull the d/r trailer 38' gooseneck inclosed, i run my 8" offset and a 9" offset on the trailer, i make sure i keep it away from the cab

if you have to pull a trailer then you might as well of bought a Longbed to begin with the only difference in the mega cab is the back seat's lean back So What I'm not a passenger in my truck I drive it .

Then get an automatic sliding hitch such as a Pullrite hitch. See attached link.

I have a Reese manual sliding hitch that I use when backing into my driveway and campgrounds with my 5er. This meets my needs with the Mega-Cab.

Jim I am pulling a gooseneck living quaters horse trailer not a 5er. All I have seen is B&W four inch offset ball option for the goosenecks on the short beds and wondered if others had used them and had any trouble with them or not. I do drive most of the time, but on long runs anybody might drive and I would be come the passenger. Having ridden in a mega I can attest to them being more comfortable. I am just not sure on the maneuverablility with the trailer.
