Like the title says I am looking for a detector for a first timer, my father. I need some help finding a good detector, not to expensive but not so cheep it wouldn't find a plug nickel. :-laf
Don't buy a cheap one . Get one that is able to discriminate minerals. If it just beeps on every nail or pull tab he will quickly loose interest. He must have patience and good knees .
I live close to Gold Hill Alabama. I get to hunt on land with a creek and thought I could just buy a metal detector, search the creek and get rich. After doing research I found that the soil that produces Gold is also very rich in minerals, thus giving false alarms. I am not an expert in metal detectors. There is a great forum on this subject.
