Just got back from Costco last night and was checking out light truck tires, as usual. I had pretty much made up my little mind that Michelin LTX tires were going on the truck soon, but I had a question about these tires at Costco that nobody could answer. The name on them said: Michelin X 235 85R 16 LT . Are these the LTX's?

Why go metric? What is a similar size tire in Standard?

Hammer down, Steve.

They're not the same tire... they don't even look the same... I saw the very tire you are talking about at Sam's Club, I've been shopping for tires too...

I really, really like the LTX's that came on my truck, and want to buy 5 more (& use the spare as a 6th new one) but they are hard to find...

NTB (National Tire & Battery) quoted me a price of $165 each, that's WITHOUT mounting & balancing. Ripoff.

I wouldn't buy bicycle tires for the village idiot, from them.

Check out www.tires.com they're looking good to me, so far...

Steve,

You should be able to get an idea of the tires that Michelin offers for our trucks here: Michelin Light Truck Tires

I found the Michelin site a bit difficult to navigate. From the above link you can see spec. sheets/availability (in PDF format) on various light truck tires. My model year 2000 ¾ ton came with the Michelin LTX A/S tires (which I can't find on Michelin's site!), and are not carried by Costco in load range E. However, Costco ordered them for me.

Happy tire hunting!

I just rotated my tires yeterday, i took the wheels off to check out a squeaky brake, and thought, what the hay. I washed the back side of all four, and rotated them for the second time now.

the truck now has 36000 miles and they have been rotated twice. these tires have really impressed me, with how well they hold up. I can see another 30000 miles on them before they need replaced. :D

no cupping at all.

Yep, in my experience, Michelin tires are absolutely the BEST tire anywhere for street/highway use for our trucks. I had a set of LTXs on my Ford diesel for 57,000 highway miles, sold that truck to a co-worker last year, and they still have thousands of miles to go.

Unless I ever need a very aggressive offroad tread that Michelin doesn't offer, I'll never buy any other tire for my Ram.

Just my personal preference

Ok guys. . now for the dumb question. I have the stock 265-75's on my truck (not the Owl series. . but the highway tread). I have started looking at tires also and have decided to stick with Michelins. Does anybody know the Diameter of these are?

I really don't want to futz with and Abbott box to keep my Speedometer accurate. My wife has the Owl series on her truck and I really like the tread... . but her tire is taller then mine. I believe my stock tire is the LTX A/S in which E-Tires says the diameter is 31. 8. Does this diameter sound right? How much would it affect my speedo if I go with the Owl series?

Thanks

Kev

www.tires.com is the same company as Discount Tire, also known as America's Tire store.

Just a little something that hasn't been mentioned in these three tire threads in this forum. Great website, prices are posted, too, and are about the same price you get quoted when you call the closest store... .

Costco & Tires

Hey folks - Went to Costco a couple of days ago and asked about a set of Michelin 265's and they told me that they would have to be ordered with about a 8 week delivery. Reason for ordering was because all the Ford/Firestone 265's being replaced with Michelin due to the recall.

Bought a set of 235/85r16's for the 92 4 years ago and paid around $130 each mounted and balanced - Also from Costco.
