Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

Okay, here's a new thread to carry the bulk of our "general" discussion--as we've been doing under "members rigs spotted"

This will keep us visible to all, and maybe easier to find for members.

First topic: The email reflector. I sent a "subscribe" message, but haven't gotten my "test" message yet. Anybody else gotten that thing to work? Anybody else get my "test" message?

Ya'll get it figured out, I'm getting ready to go fishing in the salty water. :D Be back Sunday or so. Doubt I'll have computer access there.

I guess that puts Andy in charge. ;)

Drove the 12v yesterday to re-familiarize myself with it. It's not horribly anemic, but there is work to be done. Something about the throttle response is nicer than the 24, it just doesn't rev as good. I'm sure that can be fixed--like Red's truck. Can't wait to see what sort of turbo Jackson Diesel whips up for that one. ;)

Thanks for mentioning no smoke for me on the meeting thread wade!:p

Soon enough my friend! Haha! :-laf Come February I'll have a clutch and a turbo so I can go Zero plate!Oo.

Anyhow for anybody who needs/wants/desires to know if you see the email -- email address removed -- on the Mid-TN directory that's me. :D Its my AOhell email addy. If any of you have AOL instant messenger feel free to IM me, but if you have AOhell you'll have to email me first b/c I have people blocked that are not on my buddy list. AIM users can get through though.

I thought that would stir you up a bit. I'll try to be more positive next time. We know you can do it. Just remember the sooty face Andy-the dyno op was wearing a while back. :D

Blew a Head Gasket

I just posted this in the 12v forum:

NICK?

Blowed Head Gasket, Quality Solution?

We just blowed a head gasket after having our pump tweaked out on my dads truck. We are building this truck up as a puller, but still a daily work truck. The truck has the potential of becoming a serious puller and will attended many pulls in the area. Looking for a head gasket solution that we can do ourselves to assure this doesn't happen again. Don't know how radical we'll get, but would like to see 500+ on a dyno with it someday!

What boost levels will O-ringing and copper gasket hold? Local turbo shop is building us a "Pulling" turbo that is supposed to handle 60-65 boost with proper fueling. Will O-ringing hold this? copper?

What other alternatives do I have. Is Fire Ring an option or overkill? Does a shop have to be setup to do it? Would like something that can be done with just the head off?

Thanks a million, pulling head tonight. And pulling pump again to go back in to add ... . MORE FUEL!!

Ya'll outta heard the HX35/14 singing. Who said they won't build 50 lbs?

I didn't think it would take this long for ya'll to pop the 5. 9 safety valve. :p

Allen Stoner was talking about the "fire ring" setup at the meeting Sunday. Sounds interesting. I'll have to do more research myself, but then I ain't planning on excessive boost just yet.

FLOW that head while it's off!:D

I'm outta here for a few days, going fishing in the salty waters.

Gap, ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... you got to go to the 12v forums. you can't gin more than 49 psi of boost without o-ringing it. there is a lot of controversy on the hx 35 building more than 50 psi of boost. i know a bunch of people that have the wastegates blocked off an are seeing 60+psi of boost. the research that i have done on the subject suggest that after 35 psi of boost. the max of the hx 35. that it kinda floods past the turbo and is not doing anything a lot of good. basically. not really sure on all of the details about it. when you o-ring the head it will hold upwards of 150 psi of boost. this is a real pain in the a-- to do yourself. pdr, schieds, or enterprise will do this for you at a cost that is so worth while. you have to mill the head down until it is flat again, replace the head bolts when you take the head off! for $20 it is worth it! my head has been ringed, just haven't put 50+ psi of boost to it... ..... yet! just hooler at me with anymore questions. i'll be glad to help you out.

andy, i like the smoke. looks great

FOR everyone, April 30th and May 1st

The next michigan city, ms pull. will be bigger than the last one. 8000 lbs street gas class, 8000 lbs street diesel class. ( no twins, everything else is a go!), 8000 lbs open class (twins and all that great stuff!) There will be $$$$$ added to all of the pots! there will also be prostock (gas) trucks, open gas trucks, super stocks gas trucks and some tractors on saturday nite. all of the classes haven't been set up just yet but the pull is a go! starts at 7pm both nites. drivers meeting will be held at 6:30 pm. will be hotel rooms at a discount price available. $25 to enter a truck, $5 will go to the sled and the rest will go in the pot. the pot will be split 1st-50%, 2nd-30% 3rd-20%. It'll be a great time for all who attend. hope to see all of you there. later, nick

Well I think I've made my decision on the next clutch I'm getting. I was looking at the SBC Street DD, but was still wary as the bugs are still being worked out.

However I got to looking at Haisley-Machines site the other day and noticed their "Street Puller" clutch that is priced right around the same as the SBC Street and the EEP (which I don't want to run:eek: )

A little more investigating revealed that there are A LOT of pullers out there running the Haisley-McLeod puller clutches. Kent Crowder the infamous driver of the Scheid Diesel Black Dually has a Competition Puller clutch from Haisley-McLeod. THAT! Right there says a lot.

Also the spec's for the clutch include testing to 850ft/lbs engagement/release MINIMUM:cool: And not to mention the coolest part it says in BIG red letters:

"RECOMMENDED FOR SLED PULLING"Oo.

Anyhow I just thought I'd ramble a little since I haven't stirred the pot any in a few days :-laf

I'm BACK.

Resume normal operations. ;)

Hey and ya'll straighten up some, I'm sending the new guys to this thread. :D

And HEY, who put a CD in my door while I was gone? I'm guessing it was Mr. Sykes.

Caught some fish, bought some oysters, life is good.

Hey Andy, post that reflector on this thread too. I think mine is working, I finally got a "confirmation request" and one email.

[EDIT]

A 12v guy just asked me where he can get his pump timing reset. He wants it advanced and says that Dixie Diesel and Chatt Diesel only do stock timing. Is this a do-it-yerself thing or is there a Mid Tenn shop that will crank it forward for him?

Has the email reflector killed this thread?

It's pretty dead around here fellas. What's up?

We didn't get 30 pages under Member's Rigs Spotted, by being shy. ;)

NEW GUYS announce yourselves. Tell about your truck and truck ambitions--or anything else.

Hey, now---

We're getting into the "too much information" category!:D

Hey Gap, how's Red's truck on a 4WD launch?

Is anybody at Jackson Diesel on Saturday? I wanna talk turbo with them.

OK I am a new guy.

I have had my truck now for two months and 4500 miles. I found the TDR about 2 weeks ago. I have learned a lot about CTD here. I am sorry I missed the Hooters get together but I did not know about it until it was too late. I am a IS manager for a Plastics manufacturer in Portland and live in Lebanon. ( 64 miles each way). The only complaint I have about my truck is the rattle at idle. I plan to get it fixed as soon as I find a dealer that has a good service department. The small dealer that sold me the truck sells a lot of Fords and I do not think they work on too many Dodges without a hammer. :D

Good news then. Mom and Dad live in Wilson county and both drive CTD's. They've both gotten good service at Lebanon Auto Plaza. So I wouldn't hesitate to try them if I needed dealer service.

What kind of rattle is it?

It is the noise the Clutch makes while in neutral at Idle. Sounds like the transmission has a bad bearing in it. There is a TSB on it and it requires the clutch disk to be changed. I want to make sure that if my transmission has to come out it will be put back in right. If you have not heard any complaints about service from Wilson County motors then thats where I will take it.

Thanks
