Anyone had any thoughts to running and or making Biodiesel?



I havent had too much time to look up all the info on the internet, and there seems to be lots to look through. If I come up with anything interesting I will post it.



Heck I guess I could open up a Biodiesel station... LOL!

This was sent to me from another forum:



1992 Dodge diesel 3/4 ton, 4x4, 5 speed, very clean truck, 154,000 miles. This is how it is listed in my hometown paper that get's sent to me.



This truck is located in Bethany MO. at Uptown Motors, 660-425-3440. Bethany is located about an hour and a half, give or take 10 minutes north of Kansas City, or about 20 or so miles south of the Iowa border. I-35 runs right through Bethany so it would not be hard to find and it is a small town maybe 2500 pop.

Anyone had any thoughts to running and or making Biodiesel?

I've checked into it pretty extensively. From what I understand, to get the proper chemical reaction, the WVO has to be heated to 140*. This would require a water heater or some other way to heat it. The other problem that concerns me is that it starts clouding at 50* and there's not an additive available to reliably keep it from gelling. If my info is wrong, someone please correct me.



Collecting and transporting the WVO sure sounds like a lot of trouble to me. I can only imagine how 40 gallons of McD's finest spilled all over the bed of my truck and the drive would make me feel.

bio diesel runs good. if it was cheaper than pure id run it all of the time

but no reason to run it when it is the same price as reg. n

I've done some research on it, and plan to start brewing biodiesel soon.



I already have a pump (see Biodiesel Appleseed Reactor Plans); and Harbor Freight Tools has the brass ball-valves on sale NOW. I'll buy the rest of the stuff and build it right after I find a source for waste cooking oil. I just need to Git-R-Done; but it isn't my highest priority this month.

I have been debating biodiesel also. Appleseed reactor. I think I got all the parts lined up. Prolly just gonna get a new water heater. Buddy works at water heater factory, ashland city. I got some hooks on 2 300/gal tanks and maybe one 1000/gal one.



Only concern I have is gelling. Can you not use your typical Powerserver or Stanadyne? or is it not stought enough? Got to be something you can mix with it.

I still haven't found out how to get rid of the waste. Is it biodegradable? or would I have to find a haz. waste center to take it?

From what I have gathered there is no reliable additive. You can mix it with no. 2 and add additives but I think it's only good to around 38*.

I don't think the waste product, glycerine(?), is hazardous. Some have treated it to reclaim the methanol, some use it to make soap, and I have heard of some composting it.

Well the Ford boys are working on it up here. BioD that is. If they get to cooking it before I do, then the free oil sources will be dried up.

Yeah, I'd rather hook up with Dunbar. I don't have much confidence in these guys down here in Memphis. Hypertech would be the only ones with any obvious diesel experience and I'm not sure that their dyno is public.

Dunbar is the ABSOLUTE best dyno operator, and the ONLY one that gets to run my truck.



He organizes his schedule very early in the year, and he is usually booked for the year in the first few months. Doubt they can get him this year, but they need to reserve a date for next year NOW.

I pasted some green arrows on the 265 route today-- for tomorrow's party. The Guinness keg didn't work out so I got 96 cans of Guinness. Down to 92 cans already. There'll be other suds there too for those who don't like black beer.



Yeah, I'll be dressed up, but yall come casual-the reception tent is in a horse pasture.



OH have you seen Andy's new baby? Looks suspiciously like my green one--imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, he might not have completed the deal yet, but I think he's trying. I would.



I would if I wasn't already negotiating on a 98 Quad 12v. With leather--with everything but traction bars and stacks. I'm paying too much, but it's got all the good steering stuff, fresh big tires/wheels, new shocks, new alt, #10, 370's, 3K springs, tabbed, timed, 35/40 turbo (blanks), FE, big stereo, sport headlights, etc.



12v/24v That's how we designate 'em, but it's not the REAL difference. P-PUMP!!! is the deal. And then 215 is the REAL deal. But a smooth running 160 beats the crap out of a dead VP.



I seriously hope to convert my VP to a P pump if/when the VP craps out.



Did you know that the ford guys have to run a $1600 oil pump to operate big injectors?



Speaking of VP's, NO not Andy. My sister's new blue truck is at CCD getting a new one. I pressure checked the LP at TX, but didn't DRIVE it with the gauge or VOLUME test it. CCD replace the LP and then the VP crapped out. No telling about the transmission.



Speaking of fords. I dusted a white crew cab today. He came up real fast, so I shot some smoke on him. Later we hit a lonesome road and he thought :-laf :-laf :-laf he was going to pass me. So we rolled into a couple of times and then I let him pass and he waved big, so it was all fun and smoke.



Okay the antihistimines are kicking in, now maybe I can sleep.

I bought Jeff's 96. It's an ex-cab, 4x4, 5sp. Looks like Wade's (Sorta) before the t-bone.

ahhh, she outta be a good truck, basically a new short block, 215 pump, 370 injectors, 3kgsk, 100 plate, lrgr exh housing, gauges, Mitchell Dual Disc Pulling Clutch. Gotta have an input shaft before it'll roll. It sits and runs, but that's it.
