Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

For the sake of the ignorant (myself), lemme make sure I understand the problem.

tapped into the intake horn, you got readings (as boost would build, the needle would move). We're going to assume they were correct.

Now, with the boost bolt, your mechanical gauge is fluctuating wildly at higher boost? Like bouncing 10PSI up and down?

That is strange for a mechanical boost gauge. I've had my pyro do that b/c of corrosion, but not the boost gauge. I've used plastic tubing on both my boost gauges, and haven't had a problem. I don't suppose there is a kink in the copper line somewhere? maybe?

Sorry, I'm not being very helpful. I'd probably go by Meacham's and let them take a look. They are in Lebanon off Tennessee Blvd near the fairgrounds.

New Toys

Hey guys - I've got a F1 Helix 2 cam coming from Don M. :D Also got a set of heavy duty valve springs coming that are recommended for use with the Helix 2. I'm hoping to be able to install it in 3-4 weeks. I'm in Memphis until the 15th, then in Hohenwald for over a month.

I'm hung up on what to do about changing these valve springs. Lisle makes a cheap little tool that's supposed to do the job but Cummins also makes a really nice one that is much better, according to Doug at PDW (Jetpilot). Has anyone ever used the Lisle tool? The part number is 16750. Doug and I may work something out so that I can borrow his. But I'd rather just get the cheap one if I knew it worked well enough.

Any thoughts? Meacham?

Bench Seats

Oh yeah, I need some help and opinions from you guys. My little Isuzu has the most uncomfortable bucket seats ever made in it. I'm wanting to find a bench seat that will fit and that is reasonably comfortable. So does anyone ever recall riding in a little truck with one that was tolerable for more than 10 miles?

Any ideas where to look and what to look for?

Thanks.

Andy, I have info on the part your needing. I can't figure out how to send it over the TDR. Send me a fax number or e-mail address and I will get it to you so you can see if you think it will work. Anthony

Anthony, I got the fax. I think it'll work. I called CCumberland, and they said they could order it and it would be $55. 06. A LOT CHEAPER (not to mention easier) than my other options!!!

It appears that it has a 2-5/16's opening, but I am assuming that is just to cover the hole in the motor and is a shallow "bowl" with a 1/2" NPT outlet? So I would just need a 1/2" NPT bolt to "plug it up?

This appears to be the water outlet to cool an external Bendix Air Compressor?

Thanks again, this get's me out of a pretty tight spot. It would be tasty gravy to find one on a core motor or salvage motor. :) I might try hitting up some repair shops.

Hopefully I can get the truck home tonight or tomorrow night and do the headgasket testing on Saturday. Thanks for those test tips as well too!

I called my buddy at Cumberland to see if they had one on a core engine, but no luck. He said he would keep is eye open for one. Most of the time you have to change it out when doing an engine swap.

Glad to be of some help. Let me know if I can do anything else.

Anthony

Cool thanks.

I may go ahead and order one, but I want to be doubly SURE that it will work. Is my assessment of the part correct? the "device" can be blocked off easily?

Mine had a bench stock. I wouldn't exactly call it "plush" but it wasn't uncomfortable. I'd probably try N & S Import Auto Salvage in Nashville.

I need to ask who has had to take sticky residue off of their trucks/ cars, whatever. I have those bug deflectors on mine and the one on the passenger side came loose from the sticky tape and it caught a branch coming out of my drive the other day and tore it off. I am probably going to take the other off too, but that sticky tape is still on there. What can I use to get it out without messing up the paint? I got some multi purpose remover from Wally World and is says it is safe, but is it the best thing or is there something better? Would some kind of bug and tar remover work better or what? Lemme know guys!!!

Use Acrysol. I used it to take the stickers off my snowmobile and worked great and its plastic. So if it didnt mess it up it for sure wont mess your paint up. If that doesnt work try xylene(used this to get road paint off my old truck). Both you can get at a paint supply store.

Mark

OK, you new guys are gonna have to identify yourselves! :-laf We've got people coming out of the woodwork now!

So hotram03, supercab99, and LandScraper: step forward and make an introduction!

hotram03 - you've been a member on here for a while but I don't think I've ever met you. Have you been to any meetings?

Hey Mark nice to see you finally posting over here. Those train horns sound awsome man! ;) :D Great looking/sounding rig. See at work sooner or later. :-laf

Introduction? Lets see here. . I come from owning 2 DirtyMax's prior to buying my Dodge so i come in here with 2 strikes against me, but like the new truck alot better. My brother and I have a landscaping business (how i met Got Smoke?) but i deal with the grading and dirt moving so thats where the LandScraper (not scaper) comes from. Only other person that I've really talked to on here is Sniper351, havent met him but saw him on the interstate and have met Mecham out at his place. Guess that it for me. .

Mark

I agree with GotSmoke? there, it is good to see you on here finally Mark!!! Nice of you to come out of hiding!!! Hope to see you, or hear you sometime!!!

A buddy of mine bought a little wheel that you put in a drill motor that works GREAT. It's about 4" in diameter, about 3/4" thick, and about the texture of a soft pencil eraser and it just kind of rolls it off. He gave it to me because he couldn't get it to work for him. Ended up he was trying to use it at high speed. It works great at low speed, no paint damage at all.
