If I'm not mistaken, the dually had their stage one clutch. After he drove my truck, he mentioned that I would be in the class of the stage two clutch. I didn't get any other details at the time. I plan on talking more with him about it soon.

I called around to his retailers that he told me to call, and no one had any info about availability or price. One of them did have a Kevlar type Zoom Clutch but it was like $1500 I decided to go with the SB-OFE and I ordered it yesterday. I figured that as great as everyone says there customer service is, I couldnt go wrong. I cant wait to get it in and see what that TST will really do! If it does what I think it will do, Hello new turbo!!

OK, since I have had some time on my hands at work the past couple of days, I have started to do some research and it has brought me to thinking about what I need next. The only other mods I plan on doing for performance are some injectors and a clutch, and maybe air intake. My question is, should I get a clutch before I get the injectors? I am not wanting to have a truck with 800 horse and oh my god torque, I am actually wanting the mileage part of it more, I bought the truck for towing a horse trailer, which I will be picking up in a week or so. With that in mind, what do you guys think, a clutch or injectors first? I am not sure what the stock clutch will hold as far as power. Again, I'm looking mostly for mileage, not alot of horses, those are just a perk :D , it's going to be used mostly for towing once things get going with Shannon getting her farm up and running. I guess while I'm at it, what HP injectors and type and clutch would be recommended? I did some looking at the SBC website today and found one that is recommended for towing and will hold something like 550HP and 900 ft. lbs. torque (can't remember which one it was, have it wrote down at work) and I'm thinking that would be plenty for what I want out of my truck, but I'm looking for some advice from those of you who have more knowledge than I. Thanks in Advance!!! :D

Shay

Shay - have you priced any common rail injectors? They are REALLY expensive for the HP gains that you get. A set of F1 injectors for the 03-04 trucks is $1100 and they only produce 40HP over stock. Don M has not even cracked the 04. 5 and up injectors. Who knows how much they'll be.

Anyway, it seems to me that an injector upgrade for a 3rd gen is pretty much a final effort at maximum horsepower. You can get a lot more HP for the money by stacking boxes (safely of course) and stuff like that.

So, if it was me, I'd wait on injectors (unless you just really want them) and look into another box for power. But to answer your question, I think if you add another major power box, you're clutch is gonna start slipping, especially if you're gonna be towing often. If you're gonna be towing, the worst thing is a slipping clutch so I would go that route before I added any significant power. Of course, a Con OFE is the way to go (unless you're thinking about getting really crazy with power later). Olee Poole is running a 15% off sale on all SBCs right now. He's a pretty good guy to deal with.

Well something you've overlooking Shay is that your at your EGT limits as it is with just the Edge. You bump that thing up on level 4 or 5 and your gonna get hot 1200*+! Add a set of injectors to that and your gonna have to keep the box turned way down when towing that horse trailer or just playing around unless you add some more air in there (i. e. air intake and bigger "Turbo").

I used Meacham's truck ('05) with his 24Ft. gooseneck to go to Bowling Green and pickup a 4x4 2500 Club Cab Short Bed Duramax and take it back to CCD. Pulling hills with that D-max on the back in 6th gear I could get up to 1300* no problem with NO BOXES a Air Intake system and a Magnaflow exhaust. :--) That' just an example. ;)

I told him he was nuts for thinking about injectors Hans! :-laf I think just stick to what you have for now Shay, if you want takes Hans advice and stack another box (I got distracted by the phone is the only reason he beat me to posting  ;) ) and just be gentle with it..... when you start towing that horse trailer turn the Edge down. WHEN. . (not if WHEN) it does start slipping then give me a call and I'll hook you up. ;) :-laf

Oh yeah, Shay is your 6 speed the new G56? Has South Bend even released the clutches for that unit yet? I knew they were doing some testing with the dual mass flywheel and all that.

Nope its a NV5600, his is 04. 5 Hans didn't they start putting the G56's in the '05s?

G-56's in all 05's and up, none in the 04. 5's. It's kinda crazy shifting trans, clunky win cold gets better as it warms up, nephew has one 05 and my brother has one 06.

Unless I'm mistaken the 04. 5 J/A box does all three mods (fuel press, timing and duration). I know the 03 one did. It seems like the 05 one only did timing and duration. It's been a while since I've been up on my 3rd gen stuff. If that's the case, then stacking it is out of the question.

For my money Shay I'd do a full intake kit, and start investigating turbos. If you're building a tow rig, a good turbo will go a LONG way in allowing you to pull a loaded trailer with the juice turned up while keeping your EGT's in check. Sizing a turbo appropriately can be tricky, especially for towing.

You add injectors to your box, and you're gonna smoke that stock clutch. :D

The OFE is probably what you were looking at. Far as I know, they don't recommend the FE for towing. I really enjoyed driving the ZOOM truck. Smoooooth. Dunno what kind of HP/TQ that setup would handle though.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread or get things off topic, but I wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone. I was one of the guys up at Joe's with the "redneck bling bling". The 04. 5 gray Dodge parked up by Joe's shop with the 20" bling blings. HA! I have always read on TDR but that gathering inspired me to join and participate. It was really fun meeting several new people and riding in some awesome trucks. Of course now I've got the bug to do more to my truck that is in the works now.

Anyways, I wanted to drop in and say hello to everyone and to thank you all for the awesome gathering Saturday. I look forward to the next get together soon.

Thanks Wallace for the screen name too! Oo.

Hijack the thread? This is our house!! Redneck bling bling, now thats funny! You was kinda cute too!

Welcome, and watch out for Wallace. He's a little crazy!!!

Oh my goodness. THE Piston Slapper said I was cute! Well, I'm not too sure how to take that one... ummm... the movie Deliverance comes to mind though! Just as long as you don't say I have a purty mouth.

Thanks for the welcome and it was also nice to meet the one and only Piston Slapper. Thanks guys!

And just what were you looking at PS?... ..... :-laf

Did you like his large exhaust? hahahahaha

Shay,

I would add an air intake system. If the truck can breathe better it will help with your mileage. You could also stack a programmer on it. Just a thought, but watch that clutch or you might see it on the road behind you one day.

Thanks for the replies so far guys!!! The clutch that I found yesterday on the SBC website was the MU 1947 Con OFE, 450 HP and 900 ft lbs torque. Remember also that I am NOT going for max HO here, mileage is my goal. I hadn't thought about a good point that Mark reminded me of, my EGTs. This is a towing truck and I hadn't really thought about the air either, thanks Wallace!!! OK, I just wanted to let you all know. Keep the info coming!!! :D
