Got Smoke? said:
Taylor Diesel in Nashville, TN on Elm Hill Pike (I believe?) is a certified Bosch shop. They rebuild all different types of pumps, turbo's, and injectors. Call down their (sorry no # handy) and ask for Aaron Horton. That's my fiance's cousin and he rebuilds the rotary pumps. Tell him Mark Harris told ya to call him. ;)

The owner of Taylor diesel in nashville, Jackson diesel and some pump/turbo shop in memphis is who made Ol Smokey smoke. Him and Red(daddy slapper) have known each other for years. He's an old smoker tractor guy. He can make them squirt. Said he can make it squirt liquid out the stacks if we wanted it too? We can't burn what we got now.

It's these boys who started this stuff and bring experience to the table. Look at Scheids, smoker tractor history there. The guy who built our turbo is a smoker tractor guy too, St Joeseph diesel in MO. Always cracks me up seeing scheids truck spoolup. Looks just like a smoker tractor. thump thump thump thumpthumpthump WeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEE! How's that for sound effects?

Anybody know anything about something in Corinth MS this weekend or soon. Got a call from Jackson local say they was given away tickets on the radio to some kind of Diesel something going on there? Run what ya brung and hope you brought enough!

Where's the tick at?

Mines LOUD, it's under the drivers door. I suspect it's the lift pump slapping the cam... . not for sure though.

It seems that Chris Rudd never changed the oil. By the time I got to the shop, it wasn't nearly as noticeable. I dumped the old oil--holding the valve thingy open with a 5mm allen--it was like black water, threw the amsoil filter across the road and filled 'er with RoSMELLA and a new spin-on. Sounds fine and smells even better. :-laf

My fault for not changing the oil sooner. The previous owner must have thought that synthetic is good for forever without a bypass filter. It's not.

Still pulls to 3500 and blows smoke like a train (45psi boost)--just the way Cheryl likes it. :D

Poor young feller that sold it to us had a stock plate and thought 35 psi was all that it'd do.

Really needs a 4" turbo. Put that on the list.

So now that we've had it a while, The truck starts easier, faster (no need to tap pedal), it shifts easier (removed bogus metal from transmission), reverse lights fixed (bad switch) doesn't leak as much (fix half-butt job done to xfer case), makes way more power! ( installed #10 plate--what Chris thought was in it), sounds better (adjusted amp) and has a few more thingys to take care of.

#1 is brake balance. The rears are getting too much juice. Kid before the kid I got it from (no offense Mark) hauled a bunch with it. He put a manual bias valve on the brakes. I'm going to start by pulling that. The ABS brain is shot. Fix driver's seat heater. Remove ball from bed (think I've that figured out, need trailer). Paint some rusty spots. Linex the bed. Remove the 4x4 graphics. etc.

Wade, who is Chris Rudd? Obviously, the guy you got the truck from, but it seems like some of us should know him the way you talk about him. Was he an old member or something? Fill me in here - I need all the details. ;)

Anthony,

I put "our" part on last night. Lost the expanding plug on Friday morning, and tried to do the repair on the side of the road. No-Go. The part didn't fit. I ended up having to grind a fair bit off the bottom to clear the bellhousing. Filled the system with water, and drove it to the house.

It's currently in the garage awaiting a flush and fill.

Man, I hope that thing holds. :)

He is/was a member here, but I don't think he ever contributed to the boards. I think he had a 1st gen, then he and his dad both had 98 12valves. He lived in Nastyboro and now stays in Nastylanta. He never socialized with the Mid-Tenn Chapter.

He bought the truck with a crapped out nv4500. He put a different transmission in it, 13" FE, tires, shocks, alternator---then I don't know what he did and the former owner did. And a lot has been done. He promised a few times to pass on some paperwork and make a list. But I don't think he ever will.

Mentioning him here is kind of a joke. ;)

That's your TICK.

There's a little man with a hammer living in your engine. He hates rear freeze plugs and pecks them out every time you put one in. :-laf

HO yeah, was kicking some ideas around after last meeting. Here's one that I like a lot: Spec Sheets for our trucks. Just print up all the details (BOMB's and otherwise) of your truck and lay it up on the dash or window for folks to see. If you don't want all your tricks known--leave the special ones off the list, or list it as "classified". That way new folks can find out who, if anybody, is running stuff that they're interested in--or can see what x plus y dynos at, or gets what kind of fuel mileage, etc. A photo of self on the sheet would make it easy for folks to find you and ask speeciffic questions.

Another idea (Lookout, two in a row) A Ride and Drive designation. For folks who don't mind taking others out for a ride or even letting them drive their trucks. Could be designated by parking area or sticker or stolen golf course flags. :D

Okay, now where's my medication?

426HP

Actually its 428  :p :-laf

Yeah that # is crappy when you hear what the setup was.

Not much larger than stock custom Schwitzer turbo

17* timing

Laser Cut Delivery Valves

#0 plate centered

PDR 370's.

Stock Gov. Springs tightened down.

With my previous 97 I did 430HP with just 16* timing, PDR 370's, & #10 full fwd on the stock charger.

The # I like out of that decal is the 1,000+ Ft/Lbs of TQ. ;) :D :-laf

I really need to take them off, a buddy was making/selling them @ TS Performance's Dyno Day last year. Its "hopefully" quite a bit more than that now. I'm currently running a #100, the DV's, 370's, 17*, 4K GSK, & a High Tech Killer B2 64/14Wg'd.

I would LOVE! to see very close to 500RWHP on David's dynojet next month. Oo.

Hey Mark, how do you like the 64/14 turbo, i've been poking around, and it has peaked my interest lately. what kind of street/towing manners does it have? rob.

I love it for everyday driving, and it spools just like a stock turbo. Odviously I'm running WAY to much fuel through it though. I mean c'mon I have enough fuel for a decent set of twins. :-laf

I've only towed heavy with it once, and it does surge relatively easy. Just grab a lower gear and get the boost on up around 30psi and keep on truck'n ;) :-laf I'm not sure what exactly cause's turbo surge while towing, but I've heard Industrial Injection has been working on things to elminate it..... that is if you can get them on the phone to ask a question.

I would recommend it to someone who needs a bigger charger. ;)

Wade, you pulling a GN ball? I've got a buddy that just got a 2nd Gen and wants to put one in his truck. Let me know...

Shay

Not removing the hitch, just pulling the ball. Needs to be pulled UP hard (with retaining collar in proper position--I think. Has four balls holding it in like an air fitting--and some MI rust.

Hey fellas, there's a new TDR member up in Springfield. He goes by GShultz. He posted over on the 3rd Gen forum looking for a dealer around Nashville to take his '04. 5 to that he's having a little problem with. Hans and I have turned him on to CCD and I've talked to him on the phone a few times. He's going to come visit us here at the Mid-Tenn Roundtable.

Anyway, he's developed a "fuel knock" and can't get a dealer to really pay attention to him. He's been to Gupton in Springfield where they blew him off. Meachum told him to try Miracle in Gallatin. If anybody else has a good dealer for him to go to for warranty work speak up.

Scott

Thanks Guys

Thanks!I really appreciate all the help. I talked with this Meachum this evening and will try to hook-up with him Saturday to at least get the problem diagnosed.

Thanks,

Glenn
