Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

i have a 95 dodge. everytime i start it i get a LOT of white smoke and the truck is shaking a little and it will take about 2 minutes before it drives ok. any ideas what that could be? also if ya drive it right away it seems it does not run on all cylinder. would that be an injector problem?

after a while it runs fine. just the first few minutes. and it doesn't matter what the temperature is outside. it always starts though even if it is really cold outside.

Check the fuel return line for being dry-rotted. it is located at the rear of the pump around the fuel filter area. This will let the fuel drain back and run rough until the air gets purged out.

Yep, check the return line first. Does it start right up?

White smoke can be unburned fuel or water vapor. Is your coolant level okay?

Today's dry fuel eats up injectors too. May have a couple of lazy injectors passing fuel improperly. Valve adjustment? Cold valves not closing enough to burn the fuel? Stock truck or what? Miles?

I'm a lot of help huh?

Back to the RED one. #6 piston is beat up a little. No damage to cylinder wall. NOW I have to grind out the covers and grind off the tops of the studs-a little. Two more hours...

yes coolant level is fine.

truck starts up all the time doesn't matter if it is 10 degrees. just the idle is a little low first.

truck is stock. just straight piped. about 260000 miles.

if anyone has more ideas let me know. i would like to get some mods but don't want to get it modified if the engine is not ok.

Here's my prescription for that ride:

Rebuilt injectors from Dixie--about $65 each --ask for Tim.

3K GSK

16-18 degrees timing

Slide plate and adjust AFC to suit your smoke (black) preferences.

Also adjust valve lash.

Optional--retorque head.

At 260k on stock injectors with today's fuel--I highly suspect worn injectors drizzling fuel--such that it doesn't burn until the combustion chambers warm up. Feel free to submit/seek second opinions.

Any pump shop should be glad to check your injectors. If you're lucky they'll let you go in the back and watch.

Joe, you ain't right!!! :-laf :-laf I am keeping you in mind when I get to those trailer brakes still, just need to get a day off, and guess what, I finally get one this weekend, and wouldn't you know, it's supposed to rain all weekend long!!! :{ I just can't get a break lately!!!

Still under the hood. Waiting for another part. SHOULD be able to fire-up and retorque and finalize today

How long would you run it before changing oil/coolant (from their proper places) again?

Quite a bit of coolant was in the bottom of the pan. I flushed the block out when I had the oil cooler off. I flushed the radiator with a hose and high pressure. I flushed the heater core as best as I could figger.

I'm thinking about swapping the oil filter after a day or two, then changing the oil in a week--and sucking the oil out of the top of the radiator daily.

Wade,

Cascade will work wonders for flushing the cooling system. Dissolve it in some water and add to radiator. run up to operating temp with heater on for about 10-15 minutes. Drain and repeat as needed. After all the oil is gone, flush with plain water a couple of times. We did it all the time when I was at Cummins and also do it here at Kile. It will not harm anything and works really well.

My cousin blew his head gasket and oil cooler st the same time and we used automatic dishwasher soap in the radiator. About a third of a small bottle and filled with tap water. Put the cap on but not sealed. Run truck until it reached operating temp then drained it. Let it cool then done it two more times. Got all the oil out of the cooling system that we could tell.

He changed his oil about twice within two weeks before it looked normal. The truck hasent give him a minutes trouble since(about a year ago)

Congrats Wade!!! My saga with the trailer continues, figured out today that I have some shorts in my wires on the truck, gonna have to take it somewhere to get it fixed, can't find them for nothing!!! Then it will be back to getting that trailer wired up. Guess if it's not worth the trouble it's not fun huh?!?!?!!! :{ Oo.

I got 2nd Place @ Clementsville last night! Oo. Oo.

Drew 1st pull... . tried 2nd Hi for the first time... 209'... horrible pull no traction (explain later), dropped it went to last place and tried old faithful 3rd Low... 226'

It drizzeled from the time we got there (5-5:30PM) till the time I pulled so the track was just wet clay. My Dueler A/T's didn't like it to well(226'), but Buck White's brand new Courser C/T's loved it(262'). :-laf

Got a 2ft. trophy and a $50 check..... I broke even for the day... . $25 to pull, $12 for me and a buddy to get it, $10 for McDonalds lunch, good day of truck pulling with a buddy..... PRICELESS... ... sorry had too. :-laf

Cool I pulled twice in one night and nothing happened LETS GO PULL'N! Oo.

Congrats Mark!

I'd like to say I's through with the Sport, but still have a few coolant changes and leaks to chase down. Don't think boost gauge is working properly. 10psi on the gauge feels like 20.

DANG HTB2 sounds plain wicked--and I haven't given it any real juice yet!!! Cheryl might not like it--but that's okay, I'll swap with her.

The twin ram is the biggest PIA, don't know if I'd ever recommned one just because of that. This one has lost its lettering and been powdercoated.

Thanks Wade! If you have any probs with that HTB2 give me a call I might be able to help! ;)
