Yall ain't a gonna believe this stuff but--
I run down to Dixie Diesel to get the injectors checked. Tim is the injector guy. I go in the back with Tim and ALL 6 injectors are ******* and "popping" low. SO Tim sets me up with some that he thinks will do the job. And I had him run one of those on the tester. No drizzle and a 4200-4300 psi clean pop! The pintle were worn in the old ones. He blames it on dry fuel--but that's a whole nuther deal.
And I told him about Mark's run-in with a butt on the phone down there. He was cool about everything and said basically--once you the customer understand that Dixie Diesel isn't responsible for your blown engine--then they'll set a pump or injectors or turbo anyway you want it. They're just nervous about the daily driver, no gauges, no clue sort of person trying to mess them over. It does help if you know the specs (real numbers) when you are discussing it with them.
And they're a "mid-level" Cummins dealer. Which means that they have ALL sorts of parts, gaskets, lines, insulators, Stanadyne, filters, etc--with better prices than CC.
Oh, the part you ain't going to believe. Well I spent another $500 for those parts, hauling tail back and the transmission gets funny.
Damn freaking "clip-in" was blowing juice. Spent 5 hours waiting for tools and rigging up some stuff and ... .
Got it going again. Seems fine. Blew about 1. 5 gallons.
Automatic guys--get those stupid plastic clip lines :-{} off the truck NOW! You'll be happy knowing that crap won't happen to you. I was lucky and caught a pretty day and a helpful store owner and had a wife handy to get my tools and other truck and all that.
