Don't pay for shipping, I'll be back out there soon to get him to put my new muffler on, I'll pick it up then, I saw it when I was out there.

Does anyone see ANYTHING that would give them concern in ANY of these pictures? http://webpages.charter.net/jschuler/

I know it can be hard to tell by photos, but you may pick up on something I need to ask about... .

Thanks for the help guys!

Andy

One thing..... the air bags in the back..... no good... ..... lots of problems... ... . you need to sell them to me really cheap!! :-laf ;)

Nah just kidding Andy that's a BEAUTIFUL truck! and up to your standards of being anally clean! :p However I have heard of a few people having sealing problems with the Prime-Loc fuel kits, only bad thing I have to say about it. ;)

Good luck! :D

Hey andy, it looks to have a slight bit of rust under it. looks like someone did a good job of cleaning the rust up, and spray painting. it doesnt look like it spent time in a salt pit or anything, i would call it slight rust, if it is a good deal, i wouldn't shy away from it. my truck spent some time in florida, may have a little less of the brown. sometimes the rust can make part removal rough. it seemed to be more on some of the exhaust joints and drive shaft ends where moisture tends to hang around, body still looks clean though. are you looking to paint it, or let the clear keep on coming off. the paint was similar on my 96 about a year ago, but has now come almost completely off the hood and roof exposing the grey e-coat. tires appear to be in near future. just a few thoughts. rob.

Good looking truck Andy. The only things I saw are:

  • What's the green wire under the hood?
  • The coolant in the overflow looks pretty nasty.
  • Are the pics old? Over a year on the fuel filter.
  • What's under the seat covers?

I'm with Rob on the under carriage. Somebody spent some time under there spraying everything. I'm not trying to pick the truck apart, you asked if we see anything. Looks a lot nicer than mine. ;)

Green wire under the hood appears to be a Elec. sensor for the oil pressure gauge in the pillar pod. ;)

Thanks for the input guys. So far, y'all have hit everything that I noticed. The green wire was a question, but I'd say mark is right. It does have an oil press gauge. There's also a yellow wire up by the firewall that I'm wondering may be that Summit wiring harness for the headlamp relay kit they sell.

Good catch on the filters. I saw that and checked the EXIF data on the pictures themselves. The pics are from 5/2005. So they are a year old. That picks at me a little. I really want to lay eyes on the truck. It's up around Louisville. I want to see how that failed clearcoat on the fender looks. I may be able to clean that up with some wetsand paper and then have it re-cleared. It depends on base coat thickness, severity of the clear failure, etc...

I asked why the seat covers, and steering wheel cover. He said there was the "usual" wear on the drivers seat and that the passenger seat was fine. I want to see if the "usual" wear means a hole or if it's scuffed up badly.

They did spend a lot of time cleaning up the udercarriage. I didn't see any surface rust on the body, and the undercarriage looks okay to me. The rust on the crank pully and on the injector pump makes me wonder about some of the rest of it. No obscene oil build up from like a vaccum pump seal, or leaking side cover or anything though. . What about the head on the exh manifold side? Look a little too rusty to anyone? Is it just me?

I wondered about the coolant too. Although, he dropped Jim Jessup's name, and claimed Jim had maitenanced the truck. Jim Jessup is evidently a retired Cummins engineer from the plant. I found another reference to his name over on the DTR (VERY positive reference), and PM'd the person who had mentioned him. I got his home number and will be giving him a call. Seller also said that the truck had a "Factory Performance Package" on the truck. Mr. Jessup had evidently identified it as such. From what the seller said, it has a plate, injectors and tuned pump from the factory? I've never heard of such and hoped that Mr. Jessup could enlighten me. Supposed to be a 275HP truck from the showroom. ?? I dunno.

Mark, glad to see the guy is liking the truck. I talked to him about a week after he bought the truck to make sure he was still happy with it and he told me about the headgasket... I started freaking out and saying "I didn't know!!". I really didn't. He said "man it ain't no big deal, I've got it off being o'ringed right now. ". Said he had the boost gauge burried at 60lbs and she let go. I thought he had said he put an HTB2 on it before that happened though? At any rate, I'm glad he still likes it. Sure wish I had that one back!!

Thanks again for the tips. Good looking out.

Lemme know what else you see.

Andy

P. S. Yeah, I did fix the freeze plug thing. BIG HUGE Thanks to Anthony Cook for helping me out with that one! The whole back of the block is gonna blow through the cab before that set up lets go!!! LOL.

Andy,

I have heard others speak of a Cummins "performance kit" before. From what I remember it included a plate and some other things. Nice catch on the Cummins engineer.

As far as the date on the filter, it does speak of good maintenance. Shoot, I don't date mine. ;)

Performance Package

Andy,

The Cummins distributors were selling kits at one time. The kits had fuel pump (p7100), injectors, and wastegate. The best I can remember the H. P. was @275 and the torque went to 605. The biggest gain was in torque. I installed 2 kits when I worked at Cummins. Made a big difference.

Yeah, those are the numbers that he sent me. You happen to remember what the price was?

The deal has turned sour, as the seller has started acting up. We've been negotiating for a couple of weeks through e-mail, but after today, I'd say that deal is off. So, scratch all the above... I'm still on the hunt.

Maybe it is just the angle of the photo, but that U--bolt looks too close to the airbag. I'd be tempted to shorten it some.

It looks like ALL the pics are almost a year old. The tires maybe bald and the muffler might have rusted away since then. LOL

Bummer about the sour deal! Good luck in your search.

Any of you guys have the jig for the KDP fix. i need to get on that. Also, anyone know where I can get a used set of those 3rd gen flip up folding mirrors?

Thanks,

Jeff

While we are trying to find stuff, I have been searching online for the past 2 hours and can't find anything about replacement parts, more specifically, my a pillar on the driver's side. I need a new one. Cotton, I don't have any ideas to help you out, sorry!!! Shay

Around $3500. 00 maybe? Was not involved in pricing then.

$3500!!!! For some mild injectors, mild pump work and a crappy wastegate!!! JIMMY!!! That's crazy talk!

Whew, no wonder he's holding so tight on that price.
