O. K. you folks that have been driving the 6. 7 for awhile, what kind of milage are you getting with 4:10 gears? Empty I'm only getting 14-15 mpg driving 60-62 mph and pulling a 14000 lb 5th wheel about 9. 4 mpg. I only have about 4500 miles on the truck and am hoping it will get better with more miles like my 5. 9 did, but want to know what some of you are getting with more miles on your trucks.

Thanks,

Don

I just made a 1800 mile trip with my 3rd gen 6. 7 with cruise set on 62 mph except for 175 miles of freeway at 70 mph. O/H showed 18. 5. Hand calculated was 16. 7 mpg. Also was about 2 hours of city driving in that mileage. I would think that 4th gens might do a little better.

My truck pulling my 14k fifthwheel into a headwind at 70 mph routinely shows 18 mpg. Empty it routinely hand calculates out at 24 mpg.

My lie is pretty outrageous but someone will come along and post a bigger lie.

That's the nature of mpg threads. The last liar always wins.

Usually 15 to 16 mpg hiway empty and thats with 3. 73's. Normal everyday driving is usually 13 to 14. Have seen as low as 8. 5 with camper on truck coming across Nevada with a headwind.

I wish I could claim as high as Harvey but that one is going to be tough to beat :).

I can't imagine getting that kind of milage with what I am seeing now, and that is on the computer not figured by hand. I am afraid to actually figure it, I would probably park the truck!!

Don,

They're not good enough to compete in the old Mobilgas economy runs that were conducted annually back in the '50s but our 6. 7s aren't bad for the power and convenience they offer.

A couple of posters in this thread told the truth. My truck gets about the same as you and they reported.

The truth that we rarely see is no light truck diesel, even the old 12 valves, pulling a 14k fiver are going to deliver mileage much better than around 9 to 11 and depending on terrain and wind, can drop lower than that.

Don,

Your mileage is very similar to mine. We towed our 18,000 lb fifth wheel from Arizona to Iowa and each day's travel averaged 9. 0 to 9. 5 mpg's with the exception of one day across Kansas into a pretty good headwind when the average for the day was 7. 1.

Empty, I've gotten 15 a couple of times if I keep it in the 60 mph range. Any faster and it drops to 13-14.

I now have 4700 miles on it. I also know that the mileage WILL get better as it gets broken in.

Joe

:)

Don,
That is the range these new DPF engines get. 8. 5 to 9. 5 pulling/loaded and 14. 5 to 16. 5 unloaded highway. I to have seen poor pulling mileage and have to just not use 6th gear, as the highest speed limit here is 65 MPH, and I only feel comfortable going 69. So with a load/pulling I have to use 5th to keep the engine in the most efficient RPM range 1800 to 2200 RPM's.

I just bought my delete parts and will re-post to let you know the change in MPG. I expect I will see 2 to 3 MPG in both Highway unloaded and pulling. I am not as concerned with city.

Chris

This sort of an apples to oranges comparison but I have a 3rd Gen 2009, 2500 with 3. 73 gears, automatic transmission.
Commuting to work - 16
Empty on the highway - 18
Pulling 31' Airstream travel trailer - 11. 5 - 13 @ 70 mph (8000 lbs)
Knock a one mile per gallon off for winter fuel.
Currently have 33k on the odometer. Fuel mileage went up after 20k miles.

My 2012 Max Tow got 16 highway empty, 60-70 mph, on the first tank, towing, the 5th wheel is about 13500 pounds, I was getting 10. 2 towing in the west, lots of up and down hills. Now after 7500 miles, the towing mpg is 11. 4, that is hand calculated, I drive 57-62 mph, all west coast so for, it's getting better.

Don, running empty at 70 plus I get 13. 5. I have 7k on the truck right now but I don't drive it every day. Truck has 3. 73 gears and 800 tq. i don't tow so can't help there.

16-17 @ 70 MPH running empty on the Interstate. 10. 2 towing our 16,000 lb 5th wheel on the Interstate @ 65 MPH.

Bear in mind that ours is a 2WD, so mileage will be fractionally better. I saw an improvement in mileage when towing from 9. 2 new improving to 9. 5 - 9. 6 after 2K miles up to my current 10. 2 after 6K miles.

Frankly, fuel mileage on the 2011 is not all that different than it was with our 2002 HO/6-speed 2WD dually with 4. 10s that had an Edge EZ and DD2 injectors (347 rwhp/762 lb-ft rwtorque).

(Now, if you want my lie, why not 30 MPG towing and 60 MPG running empty? As we say in Texas, the first liar doesn't stand a chance. Sorry, Harvey!!)

Only 30mpg towing??? I can beat that and I have proof! The picture below shows the mileage I can get towing three ATV's.

Now for the rest of the story... . just so happends that I filled up in Divide, CO (appx. 9,000' elevation) and the pic of the mileage was 20-something miles later as we approached Colorado Springs (< 6,000'). But that is how it usually goes when people brag about mileage, they quote the absolute best mileage they ever got and pass it off as a regular occurance.

My old '01 provided an instantaneous fuel milege and an average fuel mileage, both in th overhead display.

Several years ago I was going to Chanute, KS when a fierce winter wind was blowing out of the south. Between Colleyville and Chanute poking along in the old '01 at about 50 mph I was reading 98 mpg.

I didn't even have to lie to make that claim although it is even more ridiculous than most other fuel mileage we see claimed here.

my best has been 15. 0mpg thats empty doing 75 across Texas. When towing my 39ft 5th i get 9. 5 at 65mph. i only have 6k on the truck so far

My Lie-Ometer said I was getting 8. 2 pulling my triple axle toy hauler 73 miles an hour on the Oklahoma turnpike sunday... probably normal?!?!?
