OK, kids. There's been a number of folks asking what mileage gain, if any, has been noticed using this stuff since it was made available (or discovered it was available) last year. I've been using it constantly since then. So I decided to go "cold turkey" and kick the habit for a few tankfuls and see what happens.

I have below 9 fill-ups listed starting in mid May. My truck is my daily drive and usually runs around empty (what a waste, huh). Save for 2 fill-ups (noted) they were all done around the valley with a mix of town and short freeway or out-of-town, 2-lane, country trips (60-65 mph over a 7% grade hill about 4 miles up/down both sides).

The 2 out-of-town fill-ups were to the BullyDog event in Pocatello a few weekends ago. Those were both late afternoon drives in roughtly 90 degree temps at about 82 to 85 MPH on the freeway across southern Idaho.

By the way, I'm running 285/70 Toyo Open Country tires, which give me about an 8% correction factor. Mileage is given both as determined via the odometer and corrected for the tires. The speed indicated above on the road trip is corrected for the tires (i. e. actual).

All fuel was purchased at Flying J stations, including when in Pocatello. The quantity of Amalgamated used is according to their recommendation (1 oz. per 3 gallons), or just a tad more ;)

1: Amalgamated used.

411. 6 miles

29. 054 gallons.

14. 17 mpg

(15. 3 mpg, corrected)

2: Amalgamated used.

421. 4 miles

28. 690 gallons

14. 69 mpg

(15. 86 mpg, corr. )

3: Amalgamated used.

416. 7 miles

28. 251 gallons

14. 75 mpg

(15. 93 mpg, corr. )

4: NO Amalgamated

408. 3 miles

27. 770 gallons

14. 70 mpg

(15. 88 mpg, corr. )

5: NO Amalgamated

277. 1 miles

18. 546 gallons

14. 94 mpg

(16. 14 mpg, corr. )

6: Amalgamated used

288. 1 miles

18. 873 gallons

15. 26 mpg

(16. 49 mpg, corr. )

7: Road trip to Pocatello, Amalgamated used

302. 6 miles (at about 85 mph, w/tail wind)

20. 255 gallons

14. 93 mpg

(16. 13 miles, corr. )

8: Back from Pocatello, Amalgamated used

353. 4 miles (at about 82 mph, w/head wind)

24. 816 gallons

14. 24 mpg

(15. 38 mpg, corr. )

9: Amalgamated used

468. 8 miles

31. 506 gallons

14. 88 mpg

(16. 07 mpg, corr. )

So, the bottom line: either Flying J has pretty decent fuel already and the Amalgamated can't improve it as far as mileage goes, or it just doesn't make a difference.

However, I do beleive the engine sounds and feels smoother on Amalgamated. And it seemed to start easier when cold.

I was given a quart of Amalgamated by my buddy, JohnRV4, to try out. It DEFINATELY cut some engine noise. I have used it with and without a couple different timing mods as well and it did reduce engine noise. Mileage so far using it has been pretty darn good, but I am not sure if it is better than if I had used nothing. Smoke seems to be a tad less as well.
