The vibration of the mirrors, is that attributed to no reinforcement plates? or are they not needed in the later model doors?
Earlier trucks need the reinforcement plates.

Follow up;

The new mirrors I got off Amazon work great. There MIGHT be a little vibration on the driver side compared to the passenger side, but compared to the originals, I can't tell the difference in driving.

Give yourself about an hour per mirror if you want to hook up the turn signals as the whole door panel will need to be removed in order to route the wires. Wires come with the mirrors as well as the nuts.

Also, when I tilt the mirrors out for towing, the controls rotate too so left/right is still left/right and up/down still up/down.

I also had to swap out the one stud that is closest to the hinge/edge of the door. The existing one isn't long enough. Not a problem to unscrew the old one and new one to replace though. I double nutted to remove them.

The door where the mirror mounts is pretty strong and it has raised embossing the strengthens the mounting surface. Any vibration is in the breakaway arm mount if they don't get it tight enough when machining the parts. Swap all the bolts from the OE mirrors, the ones that come with the replacement mirrors are cheap and not fully threaded. That is the one downside so far on the 2 sets we got.

I have personally experienced "the shakes" from a pair of aftermarket mirrors on my truck that my insurance company bought and ithe shaking made them functionally worthless. I tried tightening up the connections of the mirror/motor, but nothing helped. I ended up going back to oem quality tow mirrors!!!

The nice thing about the 1A mirrror that the OP just bought is that they SEEM to be of a much higher quality then many other aftermarket ones. And if one has a problem with them, they are backed by decent customer service. Anyway, just my .02...be sure to post back your impressions on quality and function after you get them installed.

I will do that. But will be 2019 then.

A couple of months later, I would appreciate an update / long term impression of these mirror upgrades.

My drivers side mirror has vibrated and bounced for a couple of years now. I mananged to break the center pivot pin when I finally got a round tuit. So now the mirror is hanging in there but not able to aim it etc.

What I did not like about the 2004 OEM mainly was the wide view mirror that showed half the truck and really did not show into the blind spot very well. I did like the bottom view that did let me look down closer to the ground next to the tires. I would like to upgrade to the turn signal feature and the wide mirror looking further into the blind spot. I see the Amazon has a couple of options for $200 and 1AAuto has a couple for $300-350.

So anyway, are these still good options for replacing the side mirrors?

Thanks and keep up the good works.

David.

1AAuto are pretty good, customer service is really good. I installed a set of the the 4th gen heads on 3rd gen mounts mirrors with the signal light about 8-9months ago. My driver side mirror has started to vibrate, i contacted them and they are sending out a new replacement set.

It took me sometime to get used to the 4th gen mirror but i sure do like it now.

Pardon for the late arrival but, do the 1AAuto mirrors stick out 2 feet like some of the other aftermarket ones?
My passenger side electrically died recently(no adjusting) and I thought I'd upgrade to 4th gen style.
Hope you guys are still "watching" this thread, thanks.

well they have the standard OEM Size in every aspect.
At 1AA Auto - watch closely which one you order, they have them all and I accidentally order the one with the electric fold away feature - that I don't want.
so I had to re-order some without it.
same with heat and electric aiming.

The electric folding option, does that come with a separate switch? That could be handy if the mirrors stick out there like some I've seen.
I measured one set I saw and they were about 20" from the glass, the owner called them his goalposts(American football).
When pulling a trailer, the mirrors being way out there is a good thing, when not towing and parking in a lot, not so cool.

The factory fold out towing mirrors on my 07 are such an improvement on the mirrors that were on my previous truck that I never thought the day would come that I would even for a second, think of changing them.
That changed with this thread, LOL.
If I ever lose one of my existing mirrors or reach a point where I just have the uncommitted $ to spend I will be grabbing a set of these, probably the power folder with turn signal models.
Every time I log in here my, "list of stuff to get" favorites file seems to grow...
