I bought a set of the CIPA extendable mirrors, and took them back the same day. I couldn't see out of the right hand mirror for the vibration. Dealer said that was common to all of them. Any suggestions on a good solid extendable electric/heated for my 2001 / 2500 ??

Second part concerns my exhaust. I bought a 4" stainless system locally, it came with the MagnaFlow muffler. It made a tremendous difference in power and mileage, however, it has a "sweet spot" (for lack of a better term) at about 1900 rpm when pulling a hill, that will make your teeth chatter. seems like even water in the cup holder will harmonize with it and splash around.

Anyone have an experience like this they would like to share how they cured it, or atleast made it less annoying.

For reference I have.

Checked all clearences

Had all the connections welded, no clamps...

Replaced the rubber hangers

Purchased a box of ear plugs !!!

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

well as for the mirrors unless you spend the $300 for real ones your going to get what you had no if ands or butts about it.

www.genosgarage.com has the mirrors you want for the cost of $355 roughly.

exhaust problems is par for course with straight thru mufflers and it's called exhaust resinating and there's not much you can do about it. some exhaust have more of it some have less.

hope this helps

Exhaust

Jim some time you can move the muffler closer to the cab and help

with the drone are add a resinator between muffler andtail pipe

are add some angle iron to tail pipe. :D

Mirrors

I just bought bestop mirrors at Summit for $316. 69. P/N 73622-01. It's not in their catalog & web search. You need to talk to someone. Ph: 800 230 3030

I have not installed mine yet but heard mostly favorable comments by members on forum. They look good.

Thanks. Let me know how they work after you install them. I am not needing the extendables for a bit yet. I just don't want to buy something that is not usable from the git-go. . Interesting fact is that a customer of mine has the CIPA exrendables, electric without heater, and he says they are rock solid. Is there a cause/effect relationship when you add heaters ?? more weight hanging on the end of the shaft ?

The Bestop and Lucerix mirrors are the same as the Cipa's, do a search on "towing mirrors" and you will find several complaints about vibration or shaking and quite a few who are happy. I have the Bestops with power and heat, Mine shake a little more than the factory mirrors but not enough to be a problem.

I'm savin up for PowerVisions . I didn't like them at first but my wifes Silverado has them and they really started growing on me, now I want a set for the Ram. They don't vibrate on her truck and it's the same company that is OEM for the Chevy extendo mirrors, they are a bit spendy though.

I wish my resonance was at 1900 instead of the 2300-2500 range (really bad at 2500)

anyhow, lining the cab of the truck with lead sheet helped a TON!!!! I have a 4" downpipe coming off the HX40 and it goes into a length of 4" flex pipe that goes about a foot past the cab, and then it goes into 5" pipe from there out over the axle and turning out 90* after the back tire. with the resonator in place, it's not bad at all... straight piped it gets a little rowdy on the highway starting at ~75mph. at 80-85 it's pretty rough, above 90 the resonance is gone and it's smooth sailing! :p

but the lead made a HUGE difference... before I did that, you'd literally go deaf at 80-85mph!!! the most important spot is across the back of the cab. there is NO sound deadening material there from the factory!! get some lead sheet or some brown bread or dynamat covering that sheet metal, and it'll make a HUGE difference!!!

I've now got it set up so that I can swap between the resonator and the straight pipe in about 10 minutes. for daily driving and short trips, it's straight pipe... for long trips, it's muffled.

I got my Bestops installed & they look & work great. I like them. They have a very minor vibration if I'm going over rougher road but nothing to bother.

Windrock has the Bestop towing mirrors on sale for $325 and also has free shipping on orders over $50 until the end of February, Enter the DISCOUNT CODE: FEB2004 during the checkout process to receive free shipping. windrockoffroad :)

Had these Bestops for almost a year and no vibration (they are power/heated). They are a little wider then stock though, so you have to judge toll plaza's, drive throughs, etc a little closer...

I installed 4 inch with a straight through muffler. Over 2000RPM the drone was so bad that I had another muffler installed and mad no difference. I was so loud that I was ready to install my old exhaust. A friend told me to clamp on angle iron on all the straight pipes. I installed the angle iron on and am so happy. I now can pull my 30 fifth wheel over 2000 rpm's and talk to the person next to me. It is dark and cold outside but tomorrow I can measure the angle iron and tell you if it is 3 inch or 4 inch. The angle is about 1/8 inch thick.

I bought the PowerVisions

I found a set with electric, but no heaters. Bought em anyway cause I tow every weekend.

Great mirror. No vibration. . easy to install. . and, I put two layers of sound deadner in the doors when the panels were off. noticable improvement. Floors and back wall next.

As to the Exhaust HMMMMMM I am going to try the angle iron trick.

I will report on progress. .

Thanks for all the help. .

Jim:

Try a piece of 2x2 angle 3/16"-5/16" by 30" or so in front of the muffler where the pipe is straight (you have an ext. cab. ?) and grind some notches in it and gently clamp a muffler clamp on each end.

Let us know what you think.
