I wuz there today, Steve. Lots of sun and cool temps. A few nice diesels running around. One of them was a 93 extended cab with dual chrome 6" pipes through the box corners at the cab. Nice new blue paint job. I bought my son's '89 Wrangler with the LT1 and some other goodies this week, so had to get up and play in the sand after a hot week of roofing.

There were a couple of West Coast buggies running around with LS1 power plants. Word is they use marine wiring harnesses which have no sensor inputs, so no rev limiters? These suckers were coming off test hill at some pretty good speeds. Lots of suspension and travel. They were wicked fast and pretty much smoking everything else up there.

Busy weekend. I sat in line for a half hour to get my voucher. Second trip up I got pulled out of line and sent over to a sound check station. They asked me a bunch of questions about the engine, muffer, etc. Then run it up to 2500 rpm in neutral and they measure the db at the tailpipe. I was ok at 92 db. The limit is 94. Guess I won't go to open headers anytime soon.

Hope you can make it this summer. I left some sun, sand and fun up there for ya.

Later.

Andy

Just curious what type/kind of tires you run?

Also what size are they and what pressure?

My family and friends use to go to Silver lake in the 70's and early 80's. I haven't been there since.

I may make it up there sometime. With the Dodge and maybe an ATV.

I ended up going drag racing instead. Hadn't bought an ORV sticker yet this year and I probably wouldn't have gotten out again this year. Looks like I would have gotten popped for sound anyways :( .

C. ,

My son had new Goodyear MTR 33 x 12 installed a couple of weeks ago. I was running about 7 psi yesterday and had no problems getting around. No bead locks, so took it a little easy. No rain for a few days so the sand was really dry and loose. A couple of people mentioned that it was one of the busiest weekends they had seen all summer. The peak of test hill was lined solid with vehicles at times.

I have just as much fun watching other people abuse and break their equipment. If it is exotic and built for sand, you will see it there.

Steve,

I spoke with the driver of that '93, and he mentioned that he was tested at around 92 db also. Are our 24 v noisier at the exhaust?

I know it sounds noisier at the engine compartment, but I've always attributed that to the injection pump.

I can't recall a year (dating back to the late 60's) when there has been so much water at the back of the dunes by the lake. Lots of water in the low spots by the beach at Lake Michigan. The entire drag strip at the back is under about a foot of water. I observed an assortment of vehicles stalled out in and around the water holes. Must be they were trying out that new "water injection" system they had heard about.

We were up at the dunes from July 12-17th.

Wasn't very crowded durning the week, was a short line around noon friday.

For tires I ran 33x13. 50-15 Mickey thompson bajas, 13psi front, 9 psi rear.

Never looked at me once for exhaust check.

The two west coast 4 seater buggys were running around there also. The guy that was nutz was driving a 2wd race truck with no body, looked like a SCORE or BAJA style truck. People said he launched off of test hill and didn't land until 3/4 of the way down:eek: !

Yeah, lots of water. Been going for over 10yrs and this was the worst.

Did see the aftermath of a guy who rolled his new dakota down by the beach. Tried to do doughnuts while going too fast and hitting one of the water holes.

LOL

Can't help but to reply to this statement. 2 years ago i was testing out the new "water injection" system on my 92 ford f140 4x 302 33" tires. Went into this water hole too hard and engine sucked in a bunch-O-water, and needless to say, Stalled. Some guys were up there with their jeep club and took pictures of me wading around in the water to hook up the strap, and still have yet to find the pictures :( O well.

Later Curtis
