I had a 2010 3500 Crew Cab, and it came with Nerf Bars. I usually don't like paying the extra for the OEM, and have always ordered Westin bars. However, I really liked the clean look of the OEM bars, how they fit snug near the cab (didn't stick too far out, or hang too far down), and the brackets could barely be seen. The Westins that I like (5" oval "Premier" bars) fit snug, but the brackets stick out below the bottom of the bars themselves.

I now have a 2012 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 Dually, and I'm looking to see if anyone has the OEM bars on theirs, and if they are the snug fitting bars, or if there is space between the bottom of the cab and the top of the bars. All my dealer is able to find are the ones that hang down a couple of inches. But, on the 1500's they have real snug fitting bars. I'm not talking about the plastic ones, I'm talking about the stainless or aluminum chrome/polished bars.

I knew I should have had the dealer put some on when I bought the truck :(

Thanks!

Ram is using two types as options on the 2013-4s, round tubular ($525) and wheel-to-wheel flattened ovals ($600). Find the Rams at a dealer, or go to the inventory on Ramtrucks and check dealer websites to find them. The Laramie Longhorns have steps too, but I didn't look closely at them; they are the flattened oval type but I don't know if they mount similarly.

Thanks for the reply, Joseph. The tubular ones are the ones that hang down too far, and the "flat" ones aren't metal, they are molded. I saw on a 1500 some flattish oval metal ones. Wondering if they mount the same as the 3500's?

I have the flat wheel to wheel type, $600 option on SRW only, and they are metal. The mounting brackets are metal with black plastic covers. They do hang down, but give the right height for "vertically challenged" wives, etc. to get into a 4x4 3500.

I have the oval tube type from RAM on my 13 they are a bit lower than the ones I had on my 05 however I like that they stick out just a bit past the doors, helps keep the parking lot dings at bay. And the size of the step makes them much more useable.

These are pics of my 2010. The bars came with the truck, original Mopars, 5" ovals. They stick out the appropriate amount from the rocker panels, but don't really hang down at all. And the brackets don't protrude below the bottom of the bars at all. Nice clean look. This is what I'm looking for.

Here is a pic of the 4" Putco's on my 03.

They stick out far enough to step on them getting in, but not so far as to get the back of your leg dirty getting out, they are tight to the cab/box, and very stout.

Their wheel to wheel application for dually's actually flare out at the rear to match the rear fenders.

Found them! Joseph is right, but when I was looking on the mopar site, and looked up 2012, they weren't there. Had to look up a 2013 and the "flat" style oval bars are there. $525 for Cab length, $600 for wheel-to-wheel for short beds, and a cool grand ($1,000) for wheel-to-wheel with 8 foot bed. Not sure if they will fit a dually. Now that I have a part number I can go to the dealer.

I went to my dealer in the first place, but the parts guy was LESS than knowledgeable on the subject (no surprise there!). I'm in UT right now, and am going to go to a dealer here and see what they can do.

Oh, and I looked at the Putcos, they look good, but they cost as much as the OEM's do.

Thanks guys.
