Had to update my sig. Just added the Westach FP gauge last night. Hehehehe! The wife is going to have to get more seat time driving so I can watch all these gauges. How cool!!!!

I drove last night and she was telling me what the FP gauge was reading. Now, I'm a little scared. I installed post filter and the highest reading was 10psi at idle. WOT was 5psi. Highway driving was around 7. Filter was just changed about 2K miles ago.

Is 8psi the minimum at WOT per DC? Is the lift pump covered under the 100K or 80K mile warranty?

I can go to a Cummins dealer and buy a new lift pump, right? What is the part number and is it a direct replacement for the OEM?

I guess I'm as gauged as I'm gonna get (except for an additional sender for pre filter monitoring by the Westach). Now, I want... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... MORE POWER!!!!!

Well I'd been holding off on responding until someone that had experiance would respond, since all I know about this is what I read here.

I think minimum is supposed to be 7 p. s. i. . I get 14 or so at idle once the grid heater quits cycling and around 10. 5 at steady cruise, running empty on the freeway.

The fuel pump number I wrote down off the board hear is Cummins part # 3990105.

The #'s for min psi is in debate. I went to the nationals ans a guy that is an engineer for bosch said as he was trying to convert "bars" to PSI, the operating peramiters was 0 - to - 14 psi

Now 0 is the extreme end and he said that it would hurt it after awahile but in the 8,10,12 range is fine. Now one thing he did say that if you have over like 20 psi, it will cause internal damage. Some guys are running just fine like this but I wonder for how long... ... anyway, he is from bosch so I believe him... ...

I am running 12 idle, 10-12 cruise and no less than 8 WOT. I have 2 pump. a 7# pusher with a 30 micron filter behind it, and a replacement 15# carter in the stock location.

Sorry to give a big opinion, but that is what I did and it is working. I havent touched my filters in 10 K 'bout now and may be time to replace them. In stead of a lowering of PSI as being across the filter, my probe is before, I am now seeing a slight rise in PSI so I think they might be getting dirty.

anyway, anythings better than no guages and no clue as to what is going on.....

Just got my gauges installed also, mine read:

10-12psi idle

Basically 0psi at WOT

if I hold it there.

Also Lift pump would not suck, well it sucks just not fuel.

Had to pressurize the tank with a hot wire on the lift pump to prime the system.

24V,

The dealer replaced my lift pump when I showed him my readings, which were very close to yours.

My new pump, post filter, with my Westach gauge:

15psi @ idle; 14psi @ 70 mph; 11 @ WOT. It also goes up to 15 psi when I turn on the key and then slowly goes back to 'zero' about the same time the 'wait to start' light goes out.

Oh well time to go see the Dealer for a new lift pump, but thats better than having a vp44 last 100001 miles.

Fuel Pressure #`s

Good Luck with trying to get a new Lift Pump with a fuel pressure ga. installed . They will deny your warrenty- Reason: MODIFIED. that`s all I got to say about that.

 I have a question about the westech fuel pressure installation. I have most things in place, sensor mounted, wires ran etc. . Just about to install the special banjo bolt that will connect to the (grease gun hose) and route it to the sensor. Anyway, what's involved in installing this banjo bolt at the bosch low pressure input? Just unscrewing the one there and torquing the new one to spec? Is there no thread sealant in use, or just the o-rings? Afterward, is it necessary to purge the air from the line prior to trying to startup? Was thinking of leaving the sensor off for a minute, and holding the hose over a bottle of some sort, bump the key to squirt some fuel through, then putting the sensor onto the line. Then startup eng...

Thanks. .

My gauge read 7psi at idle and immediately went down to zero under load. Local dealer changed it no questions asked. Bought the truck used and had 90,000miles when I took her in. Now it reads 16psi at idle and never goes below 10 psi under load. Have noticed a slight dip at idle when Grid heaters are cycling, this is due to voltage drop. Makes me wonder if running 18 volts to the pump would help, might shorten the life of the pump to much. Maybe someone will experiment.

fp install

Here's my two cents. Initially had an autometer gauge installed but I went through two senders within 500 miles. The senders were on the end of a greese gun hose connected to the VP44. The gauge needle spiked wildly and then would conpletely fail. Sent it back and bought Westach 15 psi kit. Installed the sender on the end of greese gun hose 18" but with a restrictor "snubber" placed ahead of the sender in line. Bought it from Summit. Used permatex #2 at all threaded joints except on the vp44. Here I just used two new washers. Did not bleed the air from the line, bumped the starter once, then started it. It works wonderful with smooth needle movements on the gauge and no leaks. Idle 15psi, 75mph=12psi. Hope this is helpful.

Purchased new lift pump today from Cummins for $145. 00 (didn't even bother with the dealer). Just installed it and went for a drive. 15-16psi idle, 14psi crusing at 65mph and 12psi WOT.
