More leakage from the transmission tail shaft

Hello Ramers,
Just reviewed the post about a leaking tail shaft that actually turned out to be due to an overfill where the leak was from the top of the transmission. In my case I do believe the leak is at the drive line seal into the tail piece of the transfer case. My rig is an 04.5 QC, SWR, 4 WD drive Larame, with the 6 speed NV5600. Question for me is, is there some guidance for replacing the rear seal in any one of the TDR editions.

Pull it out, tap it in, there's no more to say about. Easy Job.

As Ozy says, an easy job. BUT, if you change the seal and still have the same leak then the bushing inside of the transfer case tail shaft housing is worn. That is not sold by itself. You have to buy a new tail shaft housing. Had to do that very thing on the '98 that I had years ago. Was not all that expensive back then. If the truck has high mileage it may be worn.
I'm thinking about $75.00 or so.

Thanks for the response guys. Looked the area over more closely (after cleaning) this morning to verify the leak is around the tail shaft of the transfer case. No doubt, it is.
Looks like I drop the drive line, pull out the seal, replace the seal and reinstall the drive line. I will mark the drive line at the differential so it connects back up in the original position. Sounds easy enough even if I have to follow mwilson's course and remove the tail shaft. By the way, my pickup has 99.4K on the odometer and this is the first glich.

Mine had about 150,000 on it when I replaced the tail shaft so the seal will probably do it for you this time around. I believe that I found a 3/4" drive deep socket in my toolbox that worked really well to drive the new seal in place.

Take care about your Driveshaft U-Joints, if they are worn then it will leak also with a good seal.
If the Driveshaft vibrates then it is not possible to make the seal hold the oil.
