My truck gives a kick in the pants when I go from full throttle to just a little bit out of it. This is a very notable boost! It also seems to have more power when I slowly ease into the throttle. This is kind of weird because sometimes it runs like a scalded dog and sometimes it is average. I would think a tps would set a code if it was out of spec. Any suggestions? btw its an h/o 6spd w 3. 73 axle.

Greetings,

Mine has done the same thing. Caught me by surprise the first time as I was getting out of it and all the sudden it was "Whoa big fella" as it roared up to 3400 RPM:eek: . Probably has to do with limiting the torque so the driveline doesn't get upset. It was inspiring though.

I have the same issue. I am not worried too much, I think it is normal. I bet it is a fuel economy or an EGT program thing. I think the new Edge EZ will fix that.

more power

I brought this old post up because i figure there must be a fix by now. my 03 ho has the same problem i didn't reply before because i thought a box with boost fooling was the fix. well i tryed an ez great power but pulling out of the trottle there was still more power now i have an c3. 1 and its still there only worse seams to go away @ upper highway speeds when letting off im sure i am missing something stupid ( i hope) 03 h0 6 speed

I believe it has more power when easing into the throttle than hammering it is for emissions reasons more than anything else. It won't give you the fuel you want if the boost isn't there at first, and I think it changes the timing if you just stomp it from nothing as well.

I believe it to be because of low rail pressure when hammering it, But if you ease out, or if you ease in, The rail pressure stays up and makes better atomization, thus more HP...

BTW - Mine does it too. Sometimes 3/4 throttle SCREAMS! - But floor boarding it does not feel a fast...

This issue has been around since the very beginning of the 3rd gen forums, back in late 2002. There are a few threads about it, and us "old timers" decided back then that it was normal, since every single truck seemed to do it. Mine continues to do it to this day, and I don't consider it a problem at all.

Of course, I can't find any of those threads that discuss it. Maybe it was my imagination?

normal ?

so every time you letoff the trottle it should acel. seam like what jannetty found on the dyno after airflow inprovments some foolish defueling thats why i thought a box with boost fooling would change it. (tommy does it still do it with the tst) must be a fix somehow map or tps

I've noticed a similar surge when turning off the cruise control. If I put my foot on the throttle before I shut off the cruise, it starts to accelerate hard when the cruise shuts off. I figured the throttle signal must be limited when the cruise is on.

I have been reading the articales at this web site http://www.dieselinjection.net/frames.html they are very knowlegable about Cummins mostly the larg over the road applications but they do like to bomb the 5. 9. It sounds like when you go full throttle you do not alow the boost to come up first. He talks alot about driving like you have an egg under the throttle and roll in it instead of just flooring.

yep it's your cp3 trying to keep up with demand, every time you let off of your gas peddle it will spike pressure a good bit and you will feel it, more pressure gives you more power!! a new cp3 will fix the problem your seeing but you will still see a pressure spike. !! :-laf

Just thinking out loud here.

If the CP3 is really getting over loaded at WOT and slowing things down. Could there there be a piece of electronics that could prevent this. Yes, what I'm about to suggest would take "skill/fun" outa of getting a perfect run. .

So, Rail pressure is depleated when throttle % (timing, duration, pressure) is to much for the RPM. I suggest a box, or an addition to a box that will now also monitor Rail pressure, much like EGT. When the level is below for example 17,000psi. Throttle (or in a boxes cause, timing, duration, pressure) will be backed off utill pressure is back up.

I'm not a fan of having a box control my throttle. But, since the edge/tst/bullydog/whatever just adds more to duration and timing, that's where I would execpt to back things down at first, before my peddle. In theory, that should be sufficient to correct this problem.

Unless, this problem is visble under stock conditions... .

Heck, I was thinking about putting a bottle cap or something under the go peddle to prevent WOT... But when you getting close to 100mph, you need that extra peddle to get up there.
