They started using that crap in PA and NJ before I got out of there. Nasty stuff, and generally takes more than one washing to get it off. If there wasn't much precip it would make the roads so slimey it was more slippery than the damn snow. There was a Warren County Road Dept shop right up the road from our store, and they had a spray boom they drove under to apply that crap to the loaded spreader trucks IIRC.

There is a product plow jockeys use to try to hold corrosion at bay. It's called Sulfamic acid. It's availeable at Home Depot. It's primary use is cleaning tile that has just been installed. When used at half strength it doesn't seem to harm paint or trim. Put on with a garden sprayer and washed off with a garden hose. I'll be doing a cleanup with it next month.

It hurts my eyes to see a vehicle in that salty condition.
I have been lucky this year and haven't had to use the pickup truck. It has sat in the garage since February 1st. I sacrifice the eco-box car to the salt as it is a lot cheaper to replace and fix than the truck.

Need to share something....

I have been running vehicles with 4 wheel ABS for some time now. As a result I use the ABS for road surface checks with no worries. If I suspect that it has frozen a quick jab on the pedal results in the ABS pump engaging, while still going perfectly straight. No worries.

WELL, on the snowy, nasty, slippery night shown above I do a brake check as described before I get to my off ramp to see what I might be up against before committing to taking said off ramp. Guess what?? I don't have the Cadillac, I am driving the '97 and it's in 4WD at 55 mph.

Not such a good idea because everything locked and I started to slide and began to go sideways. Got my act together and put the fuel to it just before that point of no return where the 360 degree spin begins.... and yes I have been there before...

Called myself a Dumbass a couple of times.

Note to self....Try and remember what you are driving before doing that again....

Mike:

Don't feel too bad about this one. There's nothing wrong with you. Years ago I was coming up to a stop sign. I gently squeezed the brake pedal with my right foot, and just before coming to a stop jabbed the left side of the brake pedal really heard. My passenger almost went through the windshield.I forgot I was driving a full size Chevy with power brakes and automatic transmission, instead of the foreign 4 speed manual with weak brakes.

If we only drove one vehicle, life would be good.

Take care,

Wasn't a waste of time or money, note trail under pulley. Also decided that the gaskets were about cooked as well.
$1000.00 plus at a Caddy dealer, I'll shed some blood instead. And they would not be as careful as I am regarding pinched wires, etc..

Mike,

You're making a VW TDI timing belt job look down right pleasant.

Designed by a committee with different measuring standard?
