Competition Drag question

:eek:WOW! These folks are nuts! No doubt there are "thrillcraft" users who can't or don't do it responsibly, but to ban OHV's? I like the way they call it "our public lands" but apparently it is "their public land". Unfortunately, there are enough greenywackos to actually bring this kind of thing to the forefront and possibly push it through. The next 4 years are going to be interesting!

Believe me, these people are everywhere. And, they are not just concerned with public lands. We have a neighbor that has harrassed people who where riding quads on our property, with our permission. The same individual has reported us to the DEP several times for get this... ... plowing fields and building fences on our farm.

Let me guess... he's new to the area, or hasn't lived there for very long. Came from the city and doesn't like the small of manure, dust annoys him, you're too loud, and on and on.

I would pump 50 gallons of diesel or waste oil on his property overnight and call the DEP on him. It would be worth the money!!!

I second he's a new homeowner who bought into the area and figured he would change it for the better

People like this guy are also of the mind set that all of their food comes from a store, not from farmland that must continually be manipulated.

Inaddition to waste oil I think pumping out my septic tank around his car and any entrance to his home would be appropriate.

I bet this idiot has never given a dime towards conservation either. Probably never heard of Pittmann-Robertson act. Would totally deny that sportsmen pay more taxes for the environment than any other group.

#@$%!******* treehuggers. #@$%!

I would build a chicken coop as close to his property as possible.

Go ahead..... Ask me how I really feel

I know when I go out in the woods, I love to have the nice sounds of nature interrupted by some a-hole on a 4-wheeler. or dirt bike. Nothing better than the sound and smell of a two stroke in the middle of the woods... yeah buddy! There are some places people should not be allowed to take ATVs.

I have nothing against ATVs... but I have a lot against ignorant people who drive them all over nature without any respect for it and tear up the environment. They should not be allowed in national forests... period.

Yooper I'm against rape but I am not calling for the castration of all men. According to these idiots I would only be allowed to ride my jetski in my pool unless one day I could afford my own private lake. since almost all lakes rivers and the ocean are considered public property. Should we ban all vehicles from hiways because of the ignorant drivers that are out there?

Yep... . they moved in just over a year and a half ago. They purchased a little half acre lot in a development that boarders our property. There's not a week that goes by that he doesn't come up with something else. The latest one, not specifically against us, is he called the game commission to come and remove the deer that are messing up his grass.

:-laf That's just bad.

Actually, I thought that pigs (especially in July and August) would be quite effective placed in that corner of the property. :-laf

On a more serious note, the same gentlemen has absolutely no problem helping himself to firewood off of our place.

I would video tape and have him charged with trespassing and stealing.

Riding a 4wheeler or dirt bike makes one an a-hole?

There are places people are not allowed to take ATV's.

For the truly handicapped or infirmed there are non-motorized means available to facilitate experience our public lands such as on the back of a horse, in a canoe or raft.
This has got to be the stupidest comment .
Your gonna stick and amputee on a horse or a canoe?

This is a good example of the elitist agenda.

Preservationist: Wants to preserve the land so noboday can use it.
Conservationist: Wants to manage the land so everybody can use it.

In Nevada, we run into this thought process constantly. Between BLM and Forest Service, about 90% of the state is Federal. There is an entire "holier than thou because I use people power" element out there. They believe they are better than the rest of us because they are oh-so-very-green. I say to them, use the wilderness areas. Leave the rest for multiple use.

I do think there are too many roads and trails that go to the same place and some should be closed. I think there are areas that OHV's shouldn't go. BUT... there should be more enforcement of the problem riders who do ruin it for everyone. If someone enters a wilderness area on a quad, the quad should be confiscated. Right now, when snowmobilers get caught in the wilderness, some have wads of cash and just pay the fine on the spot. This was told to me by a friend who works for the FS. They'd think twice if their machine and tow vehicle were confiscated.

The same element exists in most hobbies or passions. To touch a tender nerve, diesel owners who think that smoking someone out because their music is too loud make all of us look bad. Same with poachers (they are NOT hunters but many look at them that way). The same can be said about passionate hikers who put trees and rocks across legal OHV trails. All that does is force the OHV around the obstacle causing a wider path.

Reno is surrounded by BLM and FS land. For years this land has been used (and abused) by riders, shooters, and hunters. As the population grew, mostly from California, people built right up to the edge of Federal land. Then they complained about the dust (it's a freakin' desert, people!), the noise and the shooting. I have as much sympathy for them as I do for someone who moves next to an airport and complains about the planes. IF someone doesn't like what's going on, DON'T MOVE THERE!

I could keep going, but I'd get too ticked off!:-laf

Not unless they are riding it where they aren't supposed to be, which a lot of people do. There are places where ATV's are not allowed but who enforces it?

I ride mountain bikes and am also into hiking... and have had a couple incidents on bike/hiking trails (read: no motorized vehicles allowed) where we were damn near creamed by some idiot who was flying down the bicycle trail on a 4 wheeler.

I have nothing against 4-wheelers, jet skis or any other ATVs... plan on getting some when we move back to the U. P. I wish people had more consideration when they ride them, though, for other trail users and the environment.

If people would just stay on the damn designated ORV trails there wouldn't be a problem. And if people riding jet skis would remember that they are piloting a boat and observe common sense on the water, that would be helpful too!

There needs to be some places left where we can just go for some solitude in nature, without having to listen to the noise of man. Is that so wrong?

I think the site referenced at the beginning of this thread is a little over the top. I was offering my own feelings about this issue, not endorsing the extremist site.

Fort Custer in Battle Creek MI offers excellent mountain biking trails with pretty much no noise to be heard other than your tires on the dirt, and the occassional gun fire on the range when the guys on the base are practicing. I have seen many deer and all sorts of small creatures out there. Not to mention the howling packs of hyena when my buddy and I ride the trails at night with a light mounted to our helmet. This is probably a bit South for you thought huh?
