The Scotty Air thingy. Just doesn't work. Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and Waited and waited and Waited and Waited. Then when I finally got it, I looked under the hood and my turbo had rusted off. Must have lost that on the road somewhere.

Yes Scott, Wade the [censored]. Must be lost in shipping with your TRUCK. LOL

No seriously, the worst thing I think I have put on my truck is the KODIAK Sidewinders. They work great for the first couple of years and then just fall apart. Wouldn't buy them again.

Ron,

I noticed that you started this, but I don't see your worse gadget. Could it be that expensive brite box? #ad

As for me the worse, by far(!!!), was the TransGo shift kit. It had a bad part in it and I'm still getting over my blunders dealing with that! I hope to have my transmission governor fixed this next weekend.

I took the cubby hole out last week and mounted my cobra CB in the spot. I had to make an angle bracket but it fits in there nicely. I'll have to get some foam or covers to frame it later but for now, having a solid mounting place is enough.

My worst gadget?
Not the crappy Brite Box that works perfectly... but has lousy connectors... .
Not the Smitty Built Steps that rusted the day I got them... ...
Not the Isspro gauges that have goofy lights... ... .
Actually, I don't have much to ***** about!
My sunglasses fit fine in the overhead console... . But then being an older fart, I don't wear wrap arounds... ..... In fact right now my overhead dingy has my cheaters (close-ups for the younger set)and a pair of Ray Ban's... ... .
Yes, I also love the remote garage opener due to the fact that I have a garage door with an auto opener(actually the garage is a wood shop)... ... and I think it is cool!
THE WORST GADGET for my truck at this time has to be ME!!! I can't stay out of the damn thing. I go out and bash it up... ... .....
Damn, it is fun... ... ... . Never had so much fun with a long term vehicle!
Maybe time for a post on good gadgets?
Thanks,
Ron

Lousy Smittybilt Rust errr, I mean Nerf Bars,
4 years and a lot of rust later, they are BY FAR the crappiest accessory I have put on Old Stinky. I wonder if they put the so called "powder coating" on with a spray can of Krylon gloss black and a propane torch.
DON'T BUY SMITTYBILT NERF BARS! They're CRAP!!

When it comes to add ons or gadgits. I must see it with my eye balls. I will actually measure it and compare it. I dont plan on putting extra lights on cause im not blind. No radar cause if you can't afford a ticket don't speed. I don't even slow down for them cops cause they radared you before you ever saw them 3 or 4 mile ahead or behind. A scrambler would be more effective but at 3 hundred big one forget it. As far as the seats they are the most comfortible relaxing thing you can get in a truck. Whats wrong with reaching down pulling a lever to adjust your seat. I don't need a seat to go x,y,z or scratch my a@# while im driving. What next an ejection seats! I need no clutter no junk and no more problems as it is. So my advice is don't always believe the advertising. Take some time and look at what you are buying. Life goess on even if you didn't get it. But don't deprive yourslf. Because it will bug you till you whip out the wallet and get it anyway.

Let's see:
1. PIAA light bulb replacements
2. Goodyear Velvet Ride Spring Shackles
3. Blow-bye Bottle
4. Rain-X window goop--by far the worst stuff
Just this list has soured me on any aftermarket stuff.

OK,
Finally getting around to my entry:

Steelhorse brush guard

Not one weld in the entire thing, nice plastic cups to keep the crossbars from scratching the vertical supports as they slide around, nice stainless steel hardware that could never take enough torque to keep the darn thing from swaying back and forth, the fine precision bent supports which place the vertical members exactly in front of the OEM fog lights, a smooth rubber belt like thing that looks like a pushbar that is mounted on the vertical members.

Not imagine this technological wonder mounted on the front of our 35k vehicles as we bounce down a bumpy dirt road and watch in horror as the headlight guards swing closer and closer to those very expensive turn signals.

It lasted one day and now is in my yard where it will rust to hell as a memorial to buying stuff on the web sight unseen!!

The Rancho 2" front lift, or any front lift that does not relocate the track bar. I went through 3 track bars on the 96 and it never did steer correctly. The 2000 will stay at stock height!

I hate not having an off button for the fan. If it's freezing (that's about 45 degrees here in Houston), to turn on the heater from the off pos'n, the a/c compressor kicks on as you turn the knob since the fan is always on. Why would DC delete this feature??? I guess these switches were cheaper!

Unfortunately the cubby hole is off limits as it tends to act as a launching pad for pointy objects. I have to take FOD control into consideration. Poor BPine got conked on the head by a pair of sunglasses then he took a ball point in the ribs!!! #ad

Chaw,
I replaced my front springs with skyjacker leveling springs(only)( approx. 2") in 95. Still have OE track bar and its still tight. Steers great too.

(I`m sure you didn`t need to here that. . lol)

Mine is Warn Street Flares (only things available at the time). Look is cheap, poor design (3 pieces per wheelwell) and now the plastic is cracking. Anybody need 3 of them, still in poor condition? LOL #ad

This one has to take the cake. The "Geno's Cab Fresh Filter Kit". What a piece of crap and expensive too ($49). Not only was it extremely poorly made, but it didn't fit. The holes were so far off you had to re-drill them. Once installed there was -0- improvment in dust or smells. I would have returned it but then I would have then had to replace my cowl because of the holes left by the screws. I have since noticed that it was no longer listed in the new Geno's catalog. Buyer beware... ...

Those stick on deer repellers. I put them on backwards by accident. First time out in the country I look in the rear view mirror and a whole *&#in heard of deer are chargin' down the highway after me. I had to speed up to 60 to lose the critters. LOL

Hemi,

I did get it ot steer ok after installing a second steering dampner. Take a look though, your front axle is now sitting to the left more than the right. It also is putting load on the tie rod and steering box. I think the track bar must be lowered with the lift but I am unaware of anyone providing this.

Chaw & Hemi,
Chaw, you are correct. After the installation of a 2 inch front lift, the track bar is 3/8 inch too short. My simple fix was to go to a local steel house where I found a piece of steel tubing with 1. 375 ID and 2. 00 OD (very heavy duty) that was a tight fit over the track bar. I cut the track bar and slipped on the tubing and welded it so the track bar is now 3/8 inch longer. To make it stronger, in addition to welding the tube onto the track bar on the outside I drilled holes in the tube just back from where the track bar ends are inside the tube (there is now a 3/8 inch gap inside the tube between the ends of the cut track bar). I welded the track bar to the tube at these holes. The axle is once again centered in the frame with no loss of strength. The cost was about $7. 00 for the tube plus about 2 hours labor not counting the time to go to the steel house.

Vacuum servo cruise control! I cruised through asmall town at 55mph loaded with a cabover slide-in camper and pulling an enclosed trailer with three Harleys. I even turned off it's power and it wouldn't release. Called the manufacturer when I got home and he said that the Cummins vacuum pump puulls too much vacuum for the cruise contriol to release! There were no such warnings included in the package! When and if I add cruise again it will be with an electric servo!!!

actually I like the cubby hole... it holds either my cell phone or the microphone for either the (forgive me)... "cb" if I'm traveling with the club or my dual bander.....
Dont have to reach down to look for the mic.

The stupidest thing I put in the truck had to be the CB... but had to if I wanted to keep in touch during club outings.

I have presciption glasses and they dont fit in the eyeglass tray in the overhead console.
So I have to agree with that as a bludner. .

Not being a smoker I really thought the ash tray was a big waste, till I need a good spot to mount my brake controller and the hangers for the mics. Didnt have to chew up the face of the.

I use the garage door opener cubby,,, works well.

I like my power seats, I got two blown disks in the back and having all that adjustment allows me to make the changes easy and relieve the pain for sitting on one position.

So far no rust on my Smitty Built bars.
Got a 99, they've been on there almost a year now. Been on the beach a ton of times, still look good. When I first put them on thought they were too high, but got use to them.

In summary...
The best thing I put on the truck was the cap.

The worst accessory I HAD to put in was the CB. the unit it'self is fine, rather have spent the monies on something else.
