MotorTrend has an online article where they tested Dodge, GMC, and Ford diesel trucks. They tested the MPG on a 100-mile loop at a steady 70 MPH. Their results are 18. 6 MPG for the GMC, 17. 4 MPG for the Dodge, and 16. 6 for the Ford. What gives with the Duramax having better MPG than the Cummins? I thought Cummins was tops for efficiency.
The article also says the Dodge is louder than the Ford at idle, inside or outside the truck. And they say that Ford uses pilot injection to quiet the engine at idle. I thought Ford changed their programming to do away with their pilot injection. Is it possible that the Dodge is noisier at idle with pilot injection than the Ford is without it?
