CJ, if you got the dough, maybe that's the way to go! He can build one for your exact application/preference. Thing is, you would need to keep your rig for years in order to make it pay. You would still need all the accessories too. That could get spendy in a hurry. MMM... . you'll have to give that one some thought. Give me a call if you need someone to bounce ideas off of.

Another thought is Cummins still has some new engines. Go to "Fake Cummins Engines" in the 12 valve 94-98 engine and powertrain forum. It is on page 2. The engines are at Cummins Gateway.

Well, at least this way I won't have to modify the darn thing and hope I didn't screw it up. I'm thinking of pushing it up to 300 HP. If I can find an Auto transmission that will take the Ponies. (AT 545 rated at 216?) We talked about the acoutrements and I believe it would be a complete engine. I stressed several times that it was going in as a repower.

As far as keeping it and getting my moneys worth. That's what I'm thinking. I was hopeing to get ten more years out of it. maybe twenty. :D

Actually, I'm hoping to pull off an early retirement in four and a half years, and am looking forward to being able to Tour like never before promoting my new bidness.

If this thing will get double the milage, I can pull it off. The ol Gal is an apartment on wheels. Only thing it doesn't have is a slide out, and those things are more trouble than they are worth. Dad had one and it was always giving him fits.

I'll give you a call Friday if there is any news.

The Quest Continues!

If you keep the speed down and have the right gearing doubling a gasser is easily achievable, especially w/a 12v. Have you considered a manual transmission? there are lots of options if you don't mind rowing through the gears. It makes towing and exhaust braking a lot easier. It's more efficient because of the lack of the fluid coupling. Cruising in OD is about the same but getting up to speed is better w/ a manual.

Rowing my own gears would be great but for one big obstacle. This is a 37 Ft Motorhome with a basement and that would make shifter linkage a nightmare. I'm told that I can get the MT 653 in manual shift. That means no clutch and I choose what and when

Besides that would mean I do all the driving.

It's up front. Odly enough, there are very few front engine turbo diesel Motorhomes out there. Lots of delivery trucks and stuff.

Only way a shifter would work is if I use marine steering cables for shifting linkage.

CJ

I drove a 6sp Allison in a dump truck many years ago. If I remember right it works quite well with the lockup TC and will manually shift real well. It will be a good choice other that the extremely solid (read BANG!) shifting.

Sweet looking rig CJ. That's about what Mrs. LarryB wants. I'm very interested to see how this turns out. :)

You guys are not goiing to believe this. I found a 2001 24 valve 5. 9L Cummins motor complete and an Allison AT 543 from a Motorhome. The thing will be bumped up to 350 HP at my request. All systems and pumps that I need to make it work on my Motorhome are included. We are going to go thru the engine and transmission before we install it and make sure they have all new gaskets and filters.

This is a brand new long block engine with a new pump and turbo.

The builder/seller is going to transfer everything (manifolds and covers and stuff) from a block he has setting in his shop to the long block. He is throwing in a new set of High Performance Injectors to sweeten the deal. This is a local guy who builds Cummins Engines for a living. Needless to say I am stoked. It will about 8 weeks before I have it in my hands. I will probably spend that time taking stuff to the Chrome Platers.

I went this afternoon to see this guy about a NV5600 6 speed manual transmission. We got to talking and I told him what I was planning to do. We hit it off, right from the start and he got really excited about my project. Next thing I know, he's showing me a new 24 Valve Long Block he has in the back of his shop. Says he has all the parts to put it together if I want it. Course you'll have to wait about 8 weeks for me to finish it. I said"Let's do It!"

More details later,

Curtis J

The engine will be ready to pick up next Saturday morning. It will be COMPLETE

Everything new. the Allison is ready to go in behind. All I have left is find an overdrive unit and regear the Dana 70. It has 4:88's now.

Boy Isaac, did you get that one on the head. John & I hit it off from the get go. I kinda adopted him and his wife. Glad to hear someone else has had a good experience doing buisness with him.

Anybody want to do some buisness with "Peak Sales" call them at 817-279-0400, ask for John Edwards. Nothing but good to say about him. And the prices are right. He's going to supply me a Kubota Diesel for my Generator later.
