Mounting CB and Antenna

I am getting ready to install my Cobra CB in my 03, and am having trouble finding a semi-convenient place to mount the antenna (that still looks good). My other antenna was mounted under hood, but the slope of the hood and location of the regular radio antenna in the 03 makes this undesireable both from an aesthetic and practical viewpoint.



Does anyone know how much trouble I am looking at to mount it on the fender symmetrically with the standard radio antenna?



Any unique solutions out there, or suggestions?

i have always used Larsen or Motorola 3/4 inch permanent moult antennas i mount the long antennas on the front edge on the bed between the cab and the over the rail toolbox. i mount the smaller antennas on the roof. but if you have a headache rack the front lip of the bed may pose a problem.

I was having the same problem. I was determined not to clutter up my driving space like I did on my last truck. I went with the Cobra 75 WX ST. On this unit, all the controls and readouts are on the microphone, and the connection box is mounted remotely. I'm also using a thru-the-glass antennae mounted behind the truck cab. It works great for traveling in a group and talking back and forth or for listening to traffic information. I've had all sorts of CB/antennae configurations over the years and I know I'm sacrificing range with this particular setup, but for what I use it for it works plenty good. Just another option among many for you to consider.

after weeks of research, i went w/a 100% firestik setup...



the mount i used fit's in to the stake mount in the box and can be seen here -> http://firestik.com/Catalog/ss-194.htm



i also wen't w/the flat mount coax from firestik -> http://firestik.com/Catalog/k4-8r18.htm



just by drilling one hole in the mount my coax will be routed though the inners of the box, under the cab and up to the radio.

Firestik also makes a stakepocket mount, that mounts the antenna directly over the stake hole and lets you run your coax hiden between the fender and the bed. The stake pocket mounts give the antenna a slight lean to the side because the bedrail isn't level.

I have the WX 75 radio and really like it. It sure doesn't take up much space.

Where did you mount the box for the cobra 75 wx ?Any pictures? can you get a good range with that cb? Also how did you run the antenna wire , is there a factory hole in the firewall or does it have to be drilled?

The box is so small that you can mount it almost anywhere. Dean mounted his under the console/cup holder in his 6 spd truck. I mounted mine in the little storage compartment at the bottom of the dash (6 spd also) plus they could be mounted under the dash or under the seat or ... ... (get creative).



There is a large rubber plug behind the pedals, you can poke a hole in it with a punch and feed the coax through. You CANNOT poke a hole in the CENTER of the plug, you have to poke through the side of it .



It's a good little box, a CB guy told me that they could be peaked and tuned to put out 12-16 watts.

I used the Motorola speakers for the WX 75 and for my hands free cell phone mount. They fit in there so perfectly that you don't even notice them.

Thats real clean. I guess the cobra 75 wx st is the best compact CB on the market? does it have a good range?

I normally just use mine when I am traveling with someone or if I want to see "What's the hold-up?". I do not leave it on all the time because it makes me nuts to listen to the truckers all the time. Fireman and Casey seem to like theirs as well.

I leave it on when i am trying to make time on a road trip. It works a lot better than a radar detector.

I have been very satisfied with mine, and I agree that it is better than a radar detector. There is a lot of truck traffic right here at home (I-84) and the endless chatter gets annoying sometimes. When I am travelling in other parts of the country, I leave it on much of the time.
