so long story short i just recived a viair twin 480c pump and twin tank 200 psi sytem. now im trying to figure out how to mount it. i have a ext. cab long bed pickup and dont want to mount in the bed. ive got a big tool box full of tools and the bed gets used a lot. anyways im trying to find a place i can mount the tanks and compressors near each other thats easyish to service and install but is semi out of the way. i do see some off road time and mud this is a farm truck. anyways what ideas does anybody have? keep in mind i have the tools for some middle level metal fab i just dont have a mill or lathe but otherwise i can build mounts and everything else. im just looking for ideas what others have done to mount them in.
 
I mounted large air tanks from big rig trailers in the front corners of the bed (underneath). Between the 2 they held enough air to impact all 4 tires on and off. The compressor I had mounted in one of the many hidden storage areas of the Fourwheel poptop camper. I used 1/2 air brake line(plastic) dot approved line and fittings and never had any problems with leaks. There were quick connectors mounted to the tanks for quick and easy air on either side of the truck. I had plastic caps on both fittings to keep them clean from what ever terrain I was travelling through. Be sure to use a large enough gauge wire to feed the compressor.
 
I mounted my comp under the front corner of the passenger side bed. I made a frame that sandwiched the truck frame rail out of slotted steel square tubing and then mounted the compressor to that so that one I could mount it up higher than the frame rail and two I didnt have to drill the frame (it all bolted together as I didnt have access to a welder and was quite easy to make). I then made an enclosure out of some scrap diamond plate alum that I had laying around. It is pretty well protected. I also mounted the comp solenoid there as well so in addition to powering the compressor I have an easy place to get power for other items in the rear of the truck such as my reverse lights.



The tank I mounted to the bed crossmember in front of the spare tire. I took some of the leftover square tubing laid it across the top of the crossmember and then mounted the tank to it thereby sandwiching the crossmember between the tank and the square tubing.



The setup has been there well over 100k with no problems.
 
we mounted twin 10 gallon air tanks off of a mack semi tractor under the bed where the spare tire used to be of my 2005 service truck. they been down there for 5 years with no problems.
 
If you are in mud a lot you should make a shield on both sides to protect them. If you pluc the fins with dirt you will over heat them. I mounted mine in a side box with the tank hanging from the top of the box so everything is protected from snow salt ice and mud.
 
I was able to mount a 34"x9" air tank between the rails, just in front of the fuel tank. Using Kenworth metal brackets, used to space a tank away from the frame, I was able to mount it around the fuel/brake lines. Getting into the boxed frame to install the nuts was a different matter, takes a wrench with tape on it to hold the nut and reach into the tight space. Looking from the side, you can just see the bottom of the polished aluminum. I haven't mounted my compressor yet. Planning to mount on the outside of the frame, opposite of the fuel tank.
 
My 10 gallon tank and 350 Viair compressor is mounted on the front passenger corner of the bed, underneath. I bolted the compressor to the bed and the tank to the frame using existing holes in the frame. The feed line from the compressor goes directly into the tank.
 
I thought I would bring this back up to the top? Does anyone have any pictures. For those of you that have an air tank and air bags, does the compressor come on a lot to top off the tank even though you don't need air in the bags when you are running empty? I am really torn on whether or not to run a larger compressor and tank or just get the small one that comes on when the air bags switch is pressed. Any opinions? I know I probably just opened up a big can of worms with the word opinions LOL... I am not sure how to run the tank and have the air bags air up automatically to 7psi? What is everyone else doing??

Here is mine. I have 2 Viair compressors with a 5 gallon stainless steel tank. I have nitrogen also as a back up in case the viairs cant keep up. The truck has 3 horns (2) Hadleys and (1) Nathan K3LA so the nitrogen is used when long use of the horns is needed. I have a independent regulator for a air connection for filling tires or air tools.
