Can I use the existing bracket from the engine LP mounting when I move the LP to the frame closer to the tank?

I seem to recall that I read somewhere in the TDR threads that the engine LP bracket doubles as a cover plate over an old mechanical fuel pump port. This may or may not be true for my 2002. Any ideas?

If I can not use the engine LP mounting bracket, any ideas where I can get a bracket that I can use to mount the LP to the frame closer to the fuel tank? Diagram, dimensions, material, can have it fabricated locally. This is my mode of transportation so need to do it all at one time, not take the old one off, measure it, get it fabricated, install it.

Just want to use 1 LP in 1 place and have the stock one so I will use that one till it dies. I think the stock one will push fairly well if I read the threads correctly. I am in the process of doing gauges so I can monitor how things are going.

Thanks in advance,

Bob Weis

Yes that bracket covers up the hole in the block where the mechanical pump went. As far as making a bracket you could make one easily with any flat piece of steel - just put a bend in it (in a vise) and drill 3 holes for the pump mounts. You'll want to mount it in rubber gromets and put rubber between the mount and the frame otherwise you'll transmit a lot of sound through the chassis.

Go to your local home depot and buy a metal L for holding up stairs or what ever. They come galvanized and mine has not rusted yet. I think I paid like $4. 50 for it.

Here is a pic of mine mounted...

Fellas, I am wondering something. I understand ALL electric fuel pumps are made to push, not pull fuel. The location of the pump so far from the fuel tank IS a problem. However, I am wondering what effect the vibration and heat of the motor has on the pumps? I wouldn't think it would be good! Maybe the pumps would last longer if they were not mounted on the motor... and while relocating them, move them closer to the fuel tank. I know others have done this. What do you think?
