I think its getting time for another truck. I just turned 260,000 on my 95. Motor is still running strong, body is great, but the rest of the truck is showing its age. I havent paid much attention to the 3rd gens. What i seem to have noticed is that the 5. 9's are bringing more money that the 6. 7's. Is there some reason why that is? I hate to trade my truck, but it is gonna be a tough sell with that many miles. I really dont want a payment, it has been so nice having a reliable truck over these years. I upgraded the camper to a 32' from a 28' and the long trips we take would be so much more comfortable in a 4 door. (plus I'm going to a 6 speed) I just get nervous anymore when we make that 850 mile trip to Talladega with a 14 year old truck with that many miles. Anyhow, not wanting to start a 5. 9 / 6. 7 war, just looking for opinions on which way to go.

Thanks

Chris

P. S. Pennsylvania guys, I put a post in the rigs spotted section for a truck that I am looking at, check it out if you would.

If I were to trade up it would be a pre emission mega ( if exist ) 6 spd. dually that I could get stretched and have an 8ft bed. I ran into a co worker the other day that had a black mega that he had stretched for the 8ft bed and it looked incredible. It's a mixed bag on the 6. 7 models for sure, some good some bad. I know what you are saying about the extra room, would be nice but not the payments that come with it.

I decided not to trade this year instead I got mine completely repainted, new carpet is next as well as headliner. I love my truck even with nearly 240k on it. I know exactly what has been done to it and I know every little tick and noise. I drive mine everywhere with no worries, afterall I have the TDR and its members as my co pilot.

Don't be too quick to think that you couldn't sell your truck outright fairly quickly. I for one have been looking for a reasonably priced older truck for a long time and they get snatched up before I can even get to look at them. So, don't be afraid to put it out there. I'm sure it will easily sell for what the dealer will offer you on a trade, and probably more.

As far as the 3rd gen goes, I think you will be pleased. I sold my regular cab 2nd gen for a '07 quad 5. 9L and overall, I am happy with it, especially for the extra cab space and how nice it rides and drives. I made my move at the time I did because the new 5. 9L supply was getting slim, and knowing that I was going to need a new one soon, I was afraid of the emissions equipment that the 6. 7L would bring. I miss my old truck, but the 3rd gens are all around very nice.

I too steped up to my '07, 5. 9, G56 from an '01. 5 with an automatic. My old truck was nice but the '07 is much better. We took a 3,000 mile trip this summer with my two grown daughters and we couldn't have done it in the '01. The G56 was a real plus to the trucks. I got lucky and found a LATE December '06 build with the later ratio G56. I don't mind the emissions on mine. Hey, It's NOTHING like the 6. 7 has!

Thats good info, Les. I missed out on the 05 I had my eye on. Got sick as a dog over christmas and was going to go look at it yesterday, but never made it out of bed. Just gotta keep looking I guess. Not easy to find though, too many automatics out there.

I agree with jgillott... . Your truck would sell quick in Texas. . There are LOTS of people here that want the older Cummins trucks.

When I bought my truck, the 6. 7 was on the lot sitting right beside the one I currently own. I was sure that the 6. 7 was going to be a good engine, but there are always 1st run "bugs". I had previously owned a 5. 9L and KNEW the history/reliability of it, so I bought the 5. 9L. The only thing I didn't get in the truck that I bought was a manual shift. A friend on mine just bought an 08 with the automatic and I will say, that truck will absolutely FLY for a 4x4 DRW. I like the shift strategy on his truck ALOT better that the shift logic on my truck, but thats to be expected for being 2 years newer. I haven't had any issues with my truck other than an interior lighting issue and the front suspension that is scheduled to be upgraded.

I'm sure you will be happy with whatever you buy!. . Congrads in advance!!
