I just checked my MPG after updating to the newest smarty sofware. I am getting 19. 5 mpg hand calculated. I was on software 310b 208a SW. 5. I was driving it moderatly i would say, and driving 65 miles on open highway and 15 miles in stop and go traffic a day. If i drove like a grandpa i could do even better i think but that won't happen. My overhead was saying 21. 3 mpg.

Smarty update.

Our Pilot averages 18 mpg. You're doing pretty darn good! The tow update is coming out pretty soon and I'll try it as I carry my camper around all the time. Marco is on the ball and Bob keeps us updated.

Yep as soon as I sell my Edge, I plan to be running the Smarty too!

I get good mileage now (18. 9 hwy @ 70 mph) and I hope to do even better with the Smarty.

Love my Smarty, and I haven't run a full mileage run yet, but they misnamed this thing. It should be called a "Smokey. " I can keep it from smoking, but I hate to drive around guys on bikes. :D

Yeah, that's my main concern. When i get in a jam and need to use all the Smarty power,it's blackout time.

I just loaded up some Beta Towing SW, it is a little less Smokey. I will hook to my TT this weekend and see how it does.

With the latest software, i believe the smoke has been greatly reduced in my opinion compared to the old 307 softwares. I have run moderate tm and i don't think it's bad at all even when getting on it hard, but this is not above 90 hp setting.

I'm towing all the time with the camper,so I could use some smoke control. I'm going to remove the camper for a short time and have some fun!

I've had the Beta software for a couple of weeks now. I had to put the beta on software #1. Everthing else was way too agressive for my stock everything. #3 made my stock clutch slip and made my stock turbo hit 43psi (yikes). The throttle is way too sensitive. If I was racing people all the time it would be ok. But with the thing set to the lowest level (#1) it is barely ok for drivability. The power is incredible, but as agressive as it is, I can't see how this could be a "Towing" version. Not for me, anyway.

Here are some mileage results for my '07 5. 9 2500, 4x4, quad cab long bed with 8000 miles, and an MB-G56 manual transmission. Mostly dry weather in the 70's, 5000-6000ft of altitude. I ran tests through three different tanks of fuel. There was no towing. 75% highway, 25% city. Same route, back and forth to work. Driving like a grandma. Never went over 65. Usually managed to keep the RPM below 2000, but didn't lug it. Only did a couple of power checks merging onto the highway with each tank of fuel.

Tank 1: Ver 4. 06D (the one on the web site with the April 17 date) Had software #3 with stock torque management loaded. Results: 19. 8calc. 22. 3 indicated. Hard to keep from smoking like an old coal fired steam locomotive. Had to keep very light foot on throttle. Worse than grandma. Power is good, but nothing like the beta version tested next.

Tank 2: Beta "Economy and Towing" Software on #1 (#3 was going to break something) 19. 0 calcualted , 25. 3 indicated. A little better smoke control, but not much better. Power is incredible, but only used it once or twice. I Didn't tow, so I don't know if the EGT is effected.

Tank 3: Back to stock: 18. 5 calculated, 19. 5 indicated. No fun at all. Not much smoke, but surprisingly, if I am agressive on the throttle, and have the engine at say 1500rpm and floor it in 5th going 45 (6 speed), even the stock truck can smoke a bit.

My conclusion:

With only three data points it is hard to guess, but so far the mileage improvements are minimal at best. It surprised me that the normal version actually got better mileage than the beta "economy and towing" version. The power sure is nice. However, I could do without the smoke. My test probably isn't typical because of the altitude, but it is real. No B. S.

In my opinion, Marco and Bob Wagner still have some work to do to put the shine on the Smarty, at least for my use. I gave them my money and have the Smarty. Now, I am patiently waiting, but am still light footing it withthe beta 4. 4 on #1.

just my $. 02... .

recently while driving 1000 miles round trip to ORP running the beta 4. 3 on #7, I was able to average 19mpg and run a 14 in the 1/4 without ever changing from #7. "stock turbo still installed".

My truck is 9000lbs with a 6" lift on 37's. The smoke was light but all there if I really wanted it :-laf

I don't know if the best of both world can totally be had ( power/no smoke/mileage ) but... . I'd say this latest SW is pureety close !

(Edit: I see you changed it to MB-G56. ) Your "MB6" is the G56, BTW. Again, BTW, the G doesn't stand for Getrag. It stands for "Gangschaltung" if I remember my German. That's German for transmission. If you don't want a bunch of questions about your transmission, you might want to identify it as a "G56" and not an "MB6. " Though most here probably know what you're talking about, someone inevitably will bring it up.

I went around and around on that a while ago. This is what everybody told me. I guess I should be calling it a MB-G56. I will clarifiy in the future. Thanks for the correction. It is actually made in Brazil by a coalition of transmission companies...

Well put. I was originally mistaken, like many about the manufacture of the transmission.
