Decided to see what my average mpg has been over the 2 years of ownership. For the entire 23,500 miles, i am getting 14. 802 mpg. If i subtract the 3000 or so miles that i spent travelling with a slide in camper and boat in tow, the number goes up to 15. 498.

I had been hoping for better numbers overall.

how's everyone else doing?

My 20,000 mile average is 15. 9, including 3700 miles towing. My adjusted average not towing is 18. 3, but I am actually getting about 20 on the last few tanks around town. :) Seems like our trucks are pretty much the same, 'cept for the transmission. Is yours a 555 or 600?

Have you tried the Rokktech timing sensor? I was getting similar milage with my '05 until I recently installed the sensor. It bumped by milage up 2 mpg. For the price and the ease of install it's worth it.

Mr Pkitzman :::: What Is This Thing ???? Rokktech Sensor. . Where Do You Get Them And Has Anyone On The Tdr Besides You Checked Into These Things???is There A Link To It? I'd Be Interested To Hear More About It... ... I Have A 03 Automatic 4x2, Live In Kansas Where Most Of My Miles Are Flat, Pull Nothing But A Boat And Have About 23,000 Miles On The Truck. . I Will Have My Fuel Mileage On This Article In A Few Days Along With The Oil Data Sample . . this Oil Data Will Be On The Second Oil Change. . Doc...

Radar Doctor,

While investigating the Rocktech Timing Sensor, you will probably here about the "Tone Ring Modification", which, essentially, does the same thing, as I understand. Advances the timing about 2 deg's.

Basically, you remove the crankshaft pully (4 bolts) loosening the serpentine belt, first. Remove the crankshaft pully/dampener & right behind it is the tone ring. It has little teeth on it kind of like a circular saw blade with carbide tips.

You will see a smaller hole that a dowel pin goes through. It allows you to only position the tone ring, one way.

As you look at the tone ring sitting on the engine, you want to grind off about 1/16" on the left (counterclockwise) side of the hole, making it oblong.

This will allow you to slightly rotate the tone ring, clockwise, thereby, advancing the timing.

Put everything back together and you have advanced the timing, pretty much for free. I'm no mechanic, & I did it with relative ease.
