Well, considering these aren't even broken in until 20 k or so, the mileage is not surprising. If you are comparing your 02 to this, you also need to take into consideration the upped stock hp and torque. Plus, I'm not sure 3. 42 with the auto are the best choice for towing. .

Nothing comes for free.

Nah, I'm. Comparing it to my 94, 01, 02, 03, 04, 07. 5, 08, and my buddies 98, 02, 05, and 07. 5. I'm no stranger to diesels, or to breaking them in, etc. I went 3. 42's for the purpose of empty mileage with the plan of towing heavy in 5th. I've ran a mixture of Cummins and Duramax, all modified, some very heavily, some just injectors and a pipe.

Looking @ an 11 Duramax in a few hours.

*edit. My 08 Duramax got 13mpg the first tank pulling my Yukon Denali XL on a 3000lb flatbed home from Dave Smith over 3 substantial mountain passes. Same route I was just on pulling 6k, actually. 9k vs. 6k, 13mpg vs. 9mpg, and the Duramax had more power. *shrug

:-{}Update drove the new Duramax Went on a 30 mile loop 18. 6 mpg, same loop in dodge 15

Using display As a reference. Not overly scientific But a fair indication the new gm is pretty good mileage. Noticeably more power as well

What axle ratio was in the GM?

I thought the Ford I drove in 2005 had more power than the Dodge until I realized the Ford had a 4:55, yes you read that right, gearing in it. . The dodge a 3:73.

Yea, I agree with you, but I`m very surprised the EPA would allow a decrease in emissions at the expense of mileage. Its kinda bass ackwards... ... but that seems to be the norm nowadays, so why should I be surprised... hmm. . lemme ponder that one.

What is the main concern of the EPA? Less fuel consumption or cleaner air?:-{}
