I just did a search on fuel milage in combonation with 4. 10 gears and it seems that the eth's get better milage than the etc's. Is this true? I plan on ordering a 2002 2500 reg. cab 4x4 eth with 4. 10's this month. Can I expect to see about 18mpg unloaded on the highway between 65-70mph with this set-up? I will eventually get 285's for the truck which I feel will put me at the ideal ratio, 3. 80's? I want to get this one right. This truck will be my 3rd Dodge, and last one for a long time,to replace my 2001 V-10 5-spd 3. 54 4x4 which seems to me is undergeared for 285's. Please help me make the right decision.

I get (or at least have the capability to get if I control my right foot) around 21 Canadian MPG with my 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 with the ETH and 4. 10's-that's around 17 US MPG. That's running around 65-70 mph-it didn't seem to matter much for mileage between the stock 265's and the 285's that are on it now. My truck weighs close to 8000 lbs. with the toolboxes and tools that I carry for work.

Of course city driving trims your mileage down some-but even in my job as a production field operator for an oil and gas company I get between 15 and 17 Canadian MPG depending on road conditions (muddy or dry), the run I'm on that day, idle time through the day and how far behind I happen to be at the time :p

Hope this helps

Jason

My ETH gets 19-22 Unloaded hiway level. I just did Charlotte to Orlando AC cranked lots and lots of rain and the road stupidity that comes with it. many stops and doing 90 when I could and still got 19. 5.

With a fairly new truck running 80 mph with AC getting 15. 5 out of a 4X4 dually I can't complain... ... ..... Pete

Oh yeah, if I slow down to 60 its right back up to 18mpg... ... .

slow cruise to work down PCH w/stoplights & top speed 65MPH for 50 miles I can get the trip-o-meter to avg. 22MPG... usally 15. 5Avg.

Rich

I get about 17 IF I behave. I have just over 9000 miles on the truck, how many miles do the rest of You have on the odometer?

Just turned 4K on the new truck and averaged around 19 over the last 414 miles. Average MPG over the first 4K is around 18. 6, with around 70% highway and 30% stop and go/traffic jam.

Typically, I get about 21-22 with 70/30 driving. I haven't had a chance to give it a really good run on the open road since I did the injectors & EZ, but last weekend I got 24. 4 with lots of mountain driving. On level, open road, I am sure I can hit 26. :D

I got 48,500 miles on the truck, and am running DD3's, EZ, PSA, and 4" exhaust. :D

Fueled up yesterday. 386 miles on 17. 2 gallons. Trip computer has climbed to 21. 6. Calculated is 22. 4. That was packing the filler neck. The 21. 6 trip computer is the average over the last 30 gallons. :D That was mostly 60 mph driving on the two lanes with 80 miles on the interstate.

My 2001 ETH/DEE 4x 4 with 3. 54 geears and 285 BFG ATs gets 19. 1 MPG uncorrected (for larger OEM tire) at 55-60 MPH. At 65-70 MPH I am getting 17. 8 MPG. I have maitained a file on every gallon of fuel and every dollar spent on my truck, my mileage is rock steady and seems to have leveled out at this time (18K).

I am extremely pleased with my ETH milage. Besides it is a 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive truck, did I expect 30+ MPG, NO WAY! If I want great mileage then I drive the wifes BMW! But doing the math of fuel cost verse MPG I come out on top driving MY truck!

Justme, with your setup does it seem like your gearing is too high when you are turning into a street in 3rd gear or starting on a slight incline in 2nd. My v-10 with the nv4500 seems like it would be happier with the 4. 10's. I wish I could drive both ETH's , one with 285's and 4. 10's, and one with 285's and 3. 54's for a week before I made my final choice. :(

Ok, I'll toss my experience out here.

Bone stock truck up to 12,400 miles: First 3000 miles were towing my dad's Toyota 4x4 up to Wyoming to hunt Elk, no towing since then. Got 15. 8 - 16. 2 MPG constantly.

At 12,400 miles, added DD Stage 3 afterburners and boost module. From then until about 17,000 truck got from 17. 8 - 18. 6 MPG.

At around 17,000 miles, added HX40 and EZ box (actually DD's True Torque Power Module, which is a slightly tweaked EZ). Truck has today right at 19,700 miles, and has been getting 17. 3 - 17. 6 MPG since the HX40 & TTPM.

I have kept a log book of fueling, fuel additives, oil changes, and every single thing I've ever done to it, so I know right where my mileage is and has been.

See my . sig for truck specs. I live in the Sierra Nevada foothills and drive 40 miles round trip to work every day, half uphill, half downhill. I usually cruise at 70 - 75 MPH, unless I'm going to Southern California to visit family, then I cruise at 80 - 85 MPH.

Tom

Just realized, when I trimmed my . sig down, I took out that I have 3. 54 rear gears, and stock tires.

I have the HO and on a 1000 mile round trip I got 21. 5. I have 2wd and 3. 54 gears. Had a 4 wheeler in the bed and hitch haul in the reciever with probably 40 lbs in the tote.

The combination of the 285s and the 3. 54 gears are very compatible on the street. The torque of the HO engine does not allow me to have any problems on the street. Starting out in 2nd gear is my standard, even on mildly steep hills. Only when coming out of a private driveway will I engage 1st gear to pull out into the street, other wise I just give it a little extra pedal power.

MPG

I have logged all fuel since the truck was new.

2001 3500 HO with 4. 10s.

1st tank = 15. 2

2nd non towing tank = 16

3rd non towing tank = 17. 2

4th non towing tank = 18

I now have 7000 miles on the truck, 4000 of that is towing, and I am getting 17-18 empty.

I get 10-12 towing a 14K 5er. My best MPG while towing was 12. 4. 10-11 MPG is normal at 65 MPH.
