:D Well I now have a definative set of miles per gallon with the Comp turned on and turned off. In short I like what I'm seeing.

First time I made this trip was with the stock injectors and no EZ. I got 22. 36 miles per gallon at 60/61 miles per hour over 715 miles up through Umatilla to Spokane and over to Missoula then down to Salmon. That was at the begining of summer 2001.

On the 14/15th of June this year I took a trip from Portland over to Lewiston and then to Grangeville, Idaho, down to McCall coming out at Weiser and back to Portland for 890 miles. This was done with the Comp running in 3x4 or 4x4 for the entire trip. Speeds ranged anywhere from 45 to 104 with the overall average being 69 miles per hour over the entire trip. Fuel mileage for the trip came in at 18. 80. Pretty good considering we were in a hurry and we smoked a couple of Powerstrokes in the process.

Well today the 4th, I have driven from Portland to Salmon, Idaho via Lewiston and LoLo Pass and the Bitteroot valley. Total mileage so far is 669 miles at 23. 41 miles per gallon. Speed was kept to 60/61 miles per hour. This was with the Comp turned off for the intire trip. I like these 275 injectors.

Figured I would post the stats for anyone interested in what the combination of 275's and an EZ-Comp is capable of.

:D

Thanks for the info

When the f-150 sells I'll be ordering the 275/Comp combo.

I'm still unbombed, but the other day I looked at my LP pressures and zeroed the (100psi--hoping not that accurate, new VDO on order) guage at WFO.

So I thinks just don't run FTF (foot to floor).

Hard to do:rolleyes: , but I managed half a tank without flat-footing it:( . Then I checks my mileage:D I run little 2-lane highways mostly at 50-70mph and smaller backroads at 30-60 for 85% of my driving. I'd been getting low 18's mpg.

The last half-tank (I don't run below half-tank LP reasons) came out to 19. 7!Oo.

I'm just fascinated by a truck this much heavier, bigger, more powerful, with more capacity than my old FERD -sipping fuel like this.

That's why I need the comp--get my fuel consumption back up to where I understand it!

Just remember that the mileage calculator in the ceiling-mounted pod is not accurate when a box or injectors is used. It calculates from the pcm "request for fuel" and assumes the flow rate of stock injectors. It also can't correct for the added fuel signal of the box after the pcm.

2 quick things.....

1. ) Joe makes a good point.

2. )... ... .

I do not think it is fair to make a compairsion for milage when your MPH vaired so much from the other 2 tests. 8-9 MPH is a big difference on the tach, which will change the results from the other 2 tests. Next time you get a chance to test this, please post some updated results. I know it is hard to keep your foot out of it when you are BOMBed, but keep trying. :p ;)

What mileage calculator?

JD,

Nobody sed nuthin' about an onboard calculator. I had one years ago on a 1985 German sedan, but neither MG or myself are relying on a gizmo for reference on the Cummins.

and TDK,

What's this about a fair comparison? MG just gave us his observations, more specifically than usually reported, over 2274 miles! I know that my mileage may vary (YMMV) but that's the most concise report I've ever seen.

Hey MG,

I gots your back. Not Flaming:p . Just refuting some points that I don't understand being made.

Smoke on;)

I think that it is great someone finally posted something like this. But to say 2 trips that avraged the same speed, got better milage then a trip where the speed varied all the way up to 100+ is not THAT fair. I know it is VERY easy to do, please do not misread my post. :(

:D ONe additonal item. The numbers I posted were not caculated using the computer in the truck. Thes numbers are derived from toping the tank to the bitter edge where another drop won't go in. That is the only way I compute my mileage. The truck computer is off anywhere from 2 to 4 mpg. So the Numbers are correct as posted. :D

:) The numbers that I have posted are what I have gotten with each run mentioned. The last two runs mentioned, the truck has over 64,000. So I would think that break-in on the motor is now complete. What I wind up doing when I go over to see my folks is to go slow just using the cruise. Comming back I'm alway in a hurry and now worring about mileage. I left Salmon this morning at 04:30 and fueld up in Missoula at the Conoco Truck Stop on the west side where you turn off to go to Flatthead. The mileage for fuel used while home was 18. 3 over 270 miles. Course I was chugging up a few 4 wheel drive hills out in the back country and then putting my foot into it this morning when I headed out. From Missoula to Hoodriver Oregon is 507 and I got 19. 05 mpg. This is actual. I spent two hours in Spokane Wa visiting friends. My speed for this part of the trip from Missoula to Umatilla ranged from 65 up to 94 with the chip being turned on when needed and then turned back off. Most of the time I was running around 75 to 85 and the out side temp was in the 90's to 103 going into the Gorge. At Boardman to HoodRiver I backed down to 65 cause of weather turning to fag, rain, and lightening and the temps droped down to the 69 deg. Once again the tank is topped to the bitter edge and the mileage is computed using my palm pilot. I have a log in the Palm Pilot of every drop of fuel used since the day I bought the truck. . These are the numbers I'm running. I can search back and find what the numbers are when loaded with the car trailer if you want. I seem to recall getting around 17 and that was running at speeds from 75 up to around 90 down across Idaho and into Utah. Overall I'm very pleased with this combination and the ability. I plan on have the truck dynoed again as soon I can. I will post my # when that happens. :D

I think the best mileage to date is about 15 mpg. That is with the comp on level 1x1 and letting my grandma drive. What is up with the numbers in the twenties? Is that normal? Is my truck getting poor mileage or do I just like to go to fast?

Greg: It's got to be your name: Greg

I have NEVER had a tank compute over 20 mpg. I've owned six of these CTD's and have driven both like grandma, but most of the time like I'm late for a hot date. :D

Most of the time when I'm hammering the pedal a lot I get 15-16mpg, and if I try real hard and soft pedal it, I get 17-18mpg, but that is RARE.

I just can't resist blasting past the rude, inconsiderate left lane hogs that block traffic for miles doing five under the limit. A blast down the empty right lane when it opens up usually wakes up the hogs. I can't think of cheaper entertainment than the cost of a few extra gallons of fuel in the next fill-up due to my heavy foot.

And I can't complain, a gas powered 2500 QC Lwb 4x4 Dodge truck gets about 12mpg with grandma driving it, about 10mpg with me driving it. And I get 3-4 mpg better having a lot of fun and enjoying the Cummins power.

I've never seen 20+ mpg: Got to be the name: :D Greg L, the Noise Nazi. :D

What LsFarm said. I have never gotten over 18. I run empty 99. 9% of the time. A lot of around town, but I live 25 miles north of town and travel round trip each day. My trip computer has always been within +/- 1 mpg with a calculator. Now with the 315's it is way off, so all milage has to be figured with the calc. According to my Megellan GPS my speed is off by 13%. All most all the time my milage is 16. 8 to 17. 2. I've tried different shift points, with and without cruise on, and different cruise speeds. On the highway the best milage has been around 2k rpm, but with the 315's, to maintain 70, rpm's have to be about 17 to 1800. I haven't been able to figure why a lot of other people are getting much better milage.

I have never gotten over 18mpg that I know of. I drive too hard.

Since getting my camshaft every tank except one has been over 16mpg... . I think I am on my 5th tank since the cam swap, I'll have to find my fuel slips.

I'm perfectly happy with my 16mpg and power level.

Thank you my fellow lead foots,

I feel so much better. Fred Swanson said" You drive too fast man. " Maybe he is right. I drove home from his house last week( HX 40 is in) and I had to drive 50mph. I thought I was going to die... ... Thanks again

I,m running DD II's and UFM Set on 5x5, I always see 19. 5 to 20. 5. This is the same as when my truck was stock.

For the Record

I've monitored every tank since acquisition at 47000.

Fully stock, 6sp 235hp 3. 54, 265 tires 2wd: 17. 9 worst case. 18's always. When I thought the LP was weak "I grandma'd" and got 19. 7! At 75mph calculated average speed over 600 miles 20. 9.

If I babied it on the interstate I could get 22 easy.

I'll post updated numbers when I make the changes. ;)

;) Something to remember here, each one of us has a particular driving style that defines us. None of us drive the same. Also, just becauce we all drive the same rig (Cummins) there are differences there also. Type of transmission, Gearing, Mods, Tires, in other words lots of small variables. How much wear is on the fuel injector pump, how much blow by in the cylenders. Quality of fuel, do you use fuel additive. Lots of things will affect the mileage. I can only post what I see on my rig. What is consistant, is the way I compute the mileage. I alway top the tank to where another drop will not go in, not to where the pump just stops and then return the nozzle to the rack. The driving computer is used on the road to help me figure best performance while under way. The higher the instant mileage the better. But the caculations are always done with the tank toped off and my palm pilot program. -Wally-

Round trip numbers

I just ran a 2200 mile round trip from Terre Haute Indiana to Denver Co. The best I could get from my truck was 15. 6 on one tank, most of the time it was 15. 3. I was running MT, with 4. 10's 4X4 and auto I don't think we can expect to much.
