You are about where you should be for your configuration. I averaged 17 mpg driving around town for the first time on my last tankful. I have got over 21 mpg on the highway driving 58-60 mph but that's pretty slow and not worth the tradeoff in time, at least to me. Towing: 9-11 mpg, depending upon variable geometric pressure to pedal ratio. #ad

Sounds like you got a good rig. I would love to average 12. 5 when I'm towing. I just went to synthetic in the motor which is why I believe my mileage figure went up. Maybe the same will happen while towing.

I have a '97 3500 4x4 stock and have seen 20 twice @72mph,19 twice but normal is 18-18. 5 empty @72. 75+ it drops considerable. Towing 29'Terry 5th & 17. 5'Crestliner on double axle trailer 9-11mpg. Either 5th or boat alone 15mpg. Montana mountain driving. Must be in the ball-park with the rest!

I now feel better about getting 18. 6 mpg average. That is driving on country backroads between 45 to 55 mph. Best mpg is 21. 4. Running stock tires.

Maybe the 4X4's are a little less likely to provide the mileage, but I'm satisfied with my 99 2WD 3500. Totally stock, auto/3. 54 and hwy cruise control operation produces consistent 20. 1 MPG. I do baby it to achieve that figure and will remain stock for towing isn't a problem either. Dave
