what do you mean only 63? I left friday night in my new 2004. 5 and needed to make up for lost time and drove nearly 90 all the way home so i could take my wife to dinner b4 9:00 now i noticed that the trip comp isn't working when i left the dealer i guess that means a trip to the dealer. hope to have time some day to get that kind of milage.

I have always wondered how loud the whine is on the trucks people are compaining about. Mine whines a little at certain speeds, you can hear it but it's not enough to bother anyone and it whines less than axles on older HD rigs.

No problems me

Vaughn, I share the "no problems" contingent. I have 40,000 miles on my truck and can't say I've had a single problem ... no whine, no bad mpgs, nothing to complain about. Runs good, rides good, hauls good, what can I say? Anybody want to buy it? Not for sale.

Thats why I took a TDR member on a drive with me the other day. . to have him hear the whine and tell me what he thought. He said that if it were his truck, he would not be worried. So it goes in tomorrow and if they do what they can and it is still like that... I guess it's part of the beast. Mine is not annoying, does it louder when hot than cold outside. They are just doing a pattern ck tomorrow and putting the correct fluid back in it. . I hope!! The Service manager said it was not normal, but didn't see that it was loud enough to really raise a stink about... :)

whine and mpgs

I just got 14. 9 out of my truck last tank( not bad for a 1Tonw/4. 10's and 35" s) all in town. there is no whine that I can hear over my stacks. What's really ******* me off is the wife's Durango getting 10 mpgs!

Got 13. 7 MPG on my first tank. At least I'm not paying gas prices! Regular $1. 97 Premium Diesel $1. 67. Saving $10. 00 on each fill-up over regular gas. :p

The Rincon doesn't do much better... about 18 mpg. I dunno which I hate more... it for its lack of power, or the truck for its crappy mileage.

I got the auto because I was tired of shifting my '01. Worst manual transmission I've ever owned.

I'm seriously fed up with the truck... it will be going away soon if milage doesn't improve dramatically. And this will be my last Dodge.

The only thing I can think of as the "major" differences in MPG is the fact that those of us with 4x4, Auto and 4. 10 are getting "bad" mileage... ... If I could do it again the only change I would make is the rear end gears. I should have went with the 3. 73's but that is my fault for not becoming educated enough. Besides pickings were slim and I could not wait for a truck to be built the way I wanted... ... So I guess I deal with the lower mileage and smile when I see gas top $2. 00

My truck don't have any whiring noises, belt screechs or turbo noise or any of that stuff you guys talk about.

Eh? Huh, what you sayin', talk louder!!!

Sometimes not hearing all the world has in it is a blessing...

You need a different dealer. My 04 2X that mpg!!

Towing I get 9-10. That's 5000 lbs of enclosed trailer.

It's time to ditch this POS... second Dodge in a row with crap mileage.

Bummer, I hear now and then of someone getting a CTD that consistantly gets crummy mileage. Who knows why?

Guess I've been lucky. All fou of mine (91,95,99,'03) have gotten at least 18 MPG or better on the highway. The '95 did best with a solid 22-23 MPG at seventy MPH. As the trucks have gotten heavier the mileage has dropped a bit. Still, my '03 is pretty consistant around 18 MPG combined. Towing is another matter. With 14 K in tow I'm down to ten MPG. <sad>.

I have an 03 HO, 4x4 with 3. 73 gears and I get about 13-14 MPG in the city (Chicago) and about 16-18 MPG on the highway (I usually drive betwwen 70 to 80 MPH). I'm rather happy with those numbers, however, when I see people posting 20+ on the highway and 18-19MPG around town... What the heel am I doing wrong? Are people posting real numbers? Are they posting they best they have ever gotten in ideal conditions, or are they getting those numbers all the time? Sorry, just curious!

Turbo Kidd: Your numbers seem about right for a 4x4. IMHO, the members who are posting 20+ numbers are either posting their best, not their average numbers, or are driving a 2WD under ideal conditions. I think I could get 19 - 20 with mine under ideal conditions, but how often do you drive empty for 600 miles on level ground with no traffic lights at 50 MPH?

Yes mine was ideal conditions..... and yes it is possible to drive in them... . it's called 1-5 that runs the length of calif... . flat until you get way north, and you can set your cruise at 60 for 600+ miles. !!! LOLOLOL Thats where I got my 25 MPG and regularly get in the low/mid 20's... Same place I get 21 towing 65MPH. . :)

Consistently 20

I consistently get 20 but I don't kick it in the butt either. Cops around here are hungry, so I drive 60 or so up and down the pass. Altitude varies from 6,000' to 10,000. ' Check sig for more.

Roperteacher,

I can't believe anyone would go 60mph on I-5 for 600 miles. That's a hassard. How many big rigs passed you in 600 miles? The speed limit is 70 and most people cruise 75-80. The big rigs go around 65. I bet you get a lot of dirty looks when people finally get around you. I'm not trying to flame you here, I just think it is safer to drive with the flow of traffic if at all possible.

Well went through 2 tanks of fuel so far 10 mpg on 1st 12 mpg on 2nd. My old 01 with 6 speed got rock solid 15. 5. sometimes 17mpg worst 5 mpg in 79000 miles. Hope it gets better with miles traded so could stop changing gears and have back doors for the kids. Wife did not like SLT that I brought home for her to look at, too plain she said. I told her be right back 4 hrs later showed up again in patriot blue laramie. We are both happy now

EEdmondson,

The reason I sometimes go 60 is #1 I am a teacher and you know we make millions... I don't want to spend extra $$ on Fuel. #2 I have received 3 speeding tickets ( Just came off my record) for going 70 PULLING A TRAILER when the signs are posted as 55!!!!!!!! And it's beautiful scenery! LOLOLOL

mpg's on 600

Just picked up my 4. 5 600 on Saturday and drove home 90 miles. On the way home the overhead read 9. 5 most of the way and I turned it off about 3/4 of the way home. When I pulled in the driveway it read 12mpg. I reset it the next day and have driven about 400 total miles on it now and it has not gone less than 14. 2 so far. I filled up to the overflow yesterday. 5/25/04 and drove 80 miles total. I filled up again and it took 5. 1 gallons to the same spot, the overhead read 14. 4 mpg and I hand calculated right at 15. 5. If it gets this consistantly, I will be as happy as pigs in **--. Like I said before, it only has about 400 miles on it right now. She is a black 4 door 4x4 with auto and 3. 73 rear end.

I don't think daily driving in the Phoenix area is "Ideal". I've been getting very good mileage nonetheless. 498. 3 miles on 20. 4 gallons. Roughly 24. 4mpg in this "Ideal" environment.

Granted I have the easiest set-up. 2500 6spd 4d and 3. 73 gears and now 7700 miles. No performance mods, still waiting for the one I want to become available. I broke the truck in rather hard. 150 miles on it then did a rather hard pull through some mountain grades to central Utah (11mpg average). I've also modified my driving habits somewhat but not enough to warrant 10 more miles to the gallon than some others are getting.

Someone had commented about trying to drive like there was an egg on the accelerator. This helps but also pretending you have one (egg) on the brake helps also. What I'm getting at is sure, there may be some mysterious reason some trucks are getting better mileage that others. I personally think that break-in, truck set-up, anticipating road conditions (do you really need to race to the next light), and just not being in a hurry are big factors in getting decent mileage.

I'm sure I'll get flamed but bottom line is 750+ miles per tank and at $1. 92-2. 20/gallon, I'll take the heat.
