I've found most of the commercially made mud flaps sold for the Rams are too small to really protect the sides of the truck from debris. I bought some from Dodge and they were too small so I sold them on Ebay.

In my opinion, the flaps should stick out at least 1 inch from the furthest out part of the fender (like check with a plumb bob) and wrap part way up the fender so as to cover all this area. Basically, use the flaps to make pseudo-fender flares going up the back half of the wheel well.

blakers while that may provide the most protection, consider why you may have them there in the first place. . to preserve the good looks of the paint? I think those huge mudflaps are so unattractive that they negate any gain in paint appeal. Oh well, cosmetics are all about personal preference I guess. Still wondering if the weights are necessary because I dont like how most of them look.

The weights I looked at would add about 4 + pounds per flap. Thats alot of extra weight for something screwed to the plastic liners. I passed. Brandon at Genos didn't recommend them either, for the mopar flaps that just fasten to the truck fender with screws or those plastic anchors.

My mopar flaps are doing a great job. I wanted to stop the rock chips and mud from getting all over the paint just behind each tire. They do just fine and don't cost $200 + for just rear flaps. I don't like the look of flaps, but I do like the protection they give. The front and rear $70 factory rubber flaps are a good option for those like me who rather not spend over $300 for the really nice HD flaps. I was concerned about the "short" flaps (about 21"), but they do deflect the mud on wet days very well on slow gravel roads and thats when I need them the most. 24" would work better I think. These rubber type flaps work much better than the molded kind I had before. They are a little bit wider.

I'm just not a big mud flap kind of guy for my PU. But I do love the Cummins flaps with the chrome weights on 379 Peterbilts. :D
