I've found most of the commercially made mud flaps sold for the Rams are too small to really protect the sides of the truck from debris. I bought some from Dodge and they were too small so I sold them on Ebay.
In my opinion, the flaps should stick out at least 1 inch from the furthest out part of the fender (like check with a plumb bob) and wrap part way up the fender so as to cover all this area. Basically, use the flaps to make pseudo-fender flares going up the back half of the wheel well.
