For my 04. 5, I am thinking about changing the OEM muffler to something with a little more grunt. Since it already has 4" from turbo back, and no boxes added, I would like to keep the rest of the system pretty much stock, just get a little meaner sound out of it. Want to stay away from the "ricer" sound and not end up with the drone of a straight pipe. Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Thanks for the suggestion. Been thinking about that option also, did you notice any drone in the cab at highway speeds? Thanks

Here's what I have been looking at...

#ad

SILENT MIGHT

Developed by an acoustical engineer, this patent pending tuned resonator type muffler was optimized for the difficult to tame low-RPM Cummins inline six. A 9-inch diameter body, 41 inches long, with 4-inch inlet/outlet straight-thru design (48 inch overall length), it fits neatly under your Dodge or Winnebago.

No other muffler anywhere provides this performance. Standard truck mufflers (Donaldson and others) have typical restrictions of one PSI (2 inches mercury). The stock Dodge muffler backpressure can go as high as 2 PSI at high RPM.

Thanks to careful tuning, this muffler has less restriction than a straight pipe in the range of 1600-2800 RPM on a six cylinder engine.

Complete instructions are supplied with the Silent Might muffler.

Guaranteed to be the best towing muffler available anywhere (NO DRONE at any RPM, even at 500 HP)

(This is an improved design, and no longer requires use of a second muffler or catalytic converter ahead of it. If you would like to be placed on our list for a 5 inch model, write us. )

aluminized steel, . 065 inch thick, 3-year warranty

I tried mine with no muffler and just a cat once and it sound pretty dam good.

Thats how I have mine now. It DOES NOT sound like a ricer, especially with the smoke! :-laf

no muffler either

no muffler either. mine sounds great. no drone. maybe the drone comes from the 6. 5 bed trucks? With a Edge box it revs really nice and get really good milage. my . 02.

I installed a MBRP resonator type muffler on mine. I removed the convertor as well and replaced it with 4" pipe. The sound is great under load , but quiets up nicely at cruising speed. It does not have a drone and is not annoying to me in the least.

I just installed the MBRP muffler replacement kit available through DPPI and I am very happy with it. The kit includes the MBRP straight through muffler and pipe to account for the factory muffler offset. It bolts right up between the Cat and stock tail pipe. No drone and sounds great under some acceleration or load.

I mainly got it to help with EGT's towing in the mountains out of Denver and depending on gear selection and RPM seems to have lowered EGT's from 50 to over 100 less than with the stock muffler.

Thanks guys for all the input! Definately have a bunch of options to compare. Maybe will try the straight pipe and go from there. Thanks for all the comments!!!

I just installled the MBRP muffler and the cat. "test" pipe and I love the way it sounds. I can not detect any drones and it sounds cool. Oo.
