I have had the TSB done for fuel mileage and this thing still blacks up my fender. Drove to Dallas and back yesterday got about 16. 5 mpg at 65-73. This truck cackles like my old Ford did but not as bad. Why can't the manufactures get with MB VW or BMW for the injection control. This is BS in a truck this expensive. Take it to the dealer and same ignorant statement DIESELS ALL SOUND LIKE THAT.

Mine doesn't cackle but it does leave some black exhaust residue on my bumper after a trip pullin' the trailer. I've had the TSB also and I personally think that when you punch it, the truck spits out more black smoke than prior to the TSB, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. My mileage went up 2 mpg on average so I'm not complainin'...

Mine has also starting leaving black exhaust residue on the bumper. This did not happen until I had the TSB done. Quite of black exhuast soot in the tip, cleaned it completely inside and a few days later it was completely coated again.

Now a little over 10k miles, mine has started sounding more like an older Cummins. Kinda rough idle and a lot more rattle.

That is exactly what mine does now also.

Mine leaves a lot more black on the fender after having the TSB done. Also, at about 9K miles it has started getting a lot louder and rougher. My mileage on the last couple of tanks is back down to where it was before the TSB... . 12. 9-13. 3

My mileage went up and stayed up. I noticed rougher idle and more motor vibration in the floor while driving since TSB. Lots more smoke too. It is all for the better. At least I am getting the same mileage as my father-in-law's Duramax now.

Mine too. It was so quiet when new. Oh well, I guess it's still quieter than my 99.

As far as the TSB goes, my mileage seems to back to where it was before the TSB, the computer now shows higher than actual and before the TSB it was lower than actual.

The noise and rougher idle doesnt bother me as long as it is not related to bad injectors or something wrong.

Oo. You guys sound like a bunch of old women worrying about a little black on your fender and noise. If the truck runs bad and the milage goes way down then its time to worry. I'd rather breath a little diesel soot than toxic gasoline fumes. :{

cleaned your tailpipe inside LMAO not to offend you but diesels produce soot thats all there is to it. if you want to talk vibration you ought to sit inside my 12v. women prefer 12v's trust me :) i have a 400hp vibrator.

Someone needs to dyno a stock truck... right before and just after this TSB, looks like that's the only way we will know what the effects are for sure...

Reports are looking like there might be some real gains in MPG, without power loss! If thats the case, maybe the TSB has cut back fuel at idle and part throttle... and increased fuel under load!

Could the blacker exhaust you are noticing be the result of more fuel, ie: more power???? (Might be kinda hard to judge seat of pants if its in the 10 to 15 hp range... that's why a dyno would be nice!)

At least it looks like they didn't just muck with the overhead hoping everyone will think their 12mpg truck now gets 22 MPG! :)

What I am saying is yes it is a diesel but the new Ford doen't smoke or does any of the mb diesels the new Volvo excavators John Deere's or what ever has correct boost and timing controls. Black Smoke means unburnt fuel in exhaust not in the combustion chamber.

Sounds like you better get a 6. 0 pos oh, I mean power stroke. If you would like to test the decibal level to see if it meets your approval, you could throw a piece of chain in the cloths dryer, and listen to that. It would be abuot the same. (the chain might sound better though)

I've had 3 powerstokes and an old idi 7. 3. My 95 was the best running truck ever for stock. I've also run a VW Passat. I don't like loosing power to the pipe. Diesel is Diesel I like it running perfect. not like almost or thats good enough. I haven't got my propane on this one yet.

:D Good call. That's what my Dad's PS sounds like.

My previous truck was a 1984 Military Blazer with a 6. 2L diesel. I drove it the other day after being in my '04. 5 for 6 months and boy what a difference. The brakes felt like mush, the steering was all over the place, the throttle response was non-existant, the black smoke was rollin' out the duals, and the noise and rattles were deafening!! I used to drive my Blazer on 600 mile road trips and my ears would ring for a couple of days! We sure have been spoiled by these new generation trucks. Whenever I feel the need for rattling and smoke I'll just go drive my old Blazer or my 1970 deuce-and-a-half

I have had the TSB done and my mileage is up about 2 mpg. The truck seems alot smoother but it definately smokes more (black, when shifting). Then again I live and drive at high elevations, 7,000-12,000 feet so there is less O2 but I thought this TSB would reduce smoke?
