Been doing Cali top to bottom towing for over 10 years. I have noticed less enforcement on towing under on the interstates under 65. 70, your on thin ice.

We went the full length in Callyforny in 2018 and did 55 MPH the WHOLE way. Ron don't speed and don't get tickets anymore. There's some pretty tore up roads there too.

Cheers, Ron

I have this theory that there is help 20 miles ahead or 20 miles behind one on I-5. On 93 in the middle of Nevada there is help a 100 miles ahead or 100 miles behind one. However the bad roads and fuel cost has had us traveling different routes.

Back in 96 I had a CHP pass me up while I was doing 70mph towing boat through the Mojave desert.

That makes sense. BUT traveling I-5 you are taking a BIG risk at anything much above 5 over. Besides the faster you tow the worse your mileage will be.

For ME towing 60 in is a good speed in CA. Now if I am double towing I stay closer to 55.

If I am in a Freedom State like AZ I will tow 75 simply to get to where I am going. Double towing I stick to 65 as that is what the MC Trailer tires are rated for.

I love my aisin. I watch a guy on YouTube PDdieselpower, I'm sure some know of his hotshot business. He swears by the aisin/cummins combo.

In one of this videos he explained that if you ever feel your aisin is shifting "slow" or "sluggish" put her in T/H and give it wide open throttle from about a stop to around 60-70 and do that a time or two. These transmissions are apparently always learning and adjusting to new driving and shifting patterns.

I've contended and Ram states the the Aisin is an adaptive trans. Ive had folks argue it's not a learning trans, but mine seems to adapt very well. This is my second Aisin and amazing.

Well, I can say for sure it's an adaptive transmission. When I tuned the truck is when I understood that this is an adaptive transmission. Very nice running machine now.

Could you maybe elaborate on this a bit more? I’m interested.
You bet. I tuned with DRD via MM3 and you can feel the extra power, no doubt about that. Best part, the lag is completely gone. Anyway, after the tune the shifting was a bit rough and also would seem like it was hanging up, or slipping, especially from 3 to 4. After putting on about 100 miles and doing some stop lights along with freeway driving, its back to normal and very buttery smooth. I'd say, it feels better than stock. So, yes, with the extra power, it did adapt to it and settled in very impressively.

There are so many tuners for these trucks! DRD has some pretty neat stuff I’m interested in. But that’s really good to hear. I really went with the Aisin for the security of ever tuning it I knew the Aisin would be able to hold up to the power. I don’t want a hot rod, I’m fine with a 70hp tune just o get rid of the emissions and a little more get up and go.

I hear yah. I researched everything until my eyes popped out. I only got the 30 hp bump, but dang, it dont feel it feels more. I'm sure the Ebay ones are good, but hard to know where they are coming from.
You can see that Ray has put in some time into these trucks and delivers a stellar product, along with quality customer service. I couldn't he happier, and let me tell you it's a new truck with out the 60- 80k price tag!! It was yet another reason I opted for an aisin equipped truck.
We just did my neighbors truck today, and he flipped out, he went full blown, 30-200 hp and 5" exhaust. That thing is a beast. Head studs Friday for him!

While I am a big Aisin fan, the 68RFE is a better trans for tuning and for added HP.

AFIK there isn't any aftermarket tuning for the AISIN as it's a separate controller. The AISIN is very robust, but doesn't like a lot of added power. It doesn't break, but it doesn't drive the same either. The trans will put the truck in limp mode, similar to the Allison/DMAX combo.

Bottom line is if you want to play with added power then get the 68RFE, hands down.

I’ll say the 68rfe has been a stellar performer for me here in Alaska. They plow like a beast and tow great. The Aisin is certainly a higher quality trans but in my opinion isn’t worth the premium. One gripe I can add to the list is the slow reaction time when shifting F-N-R. It takes forever to engage compared to the 68rfe or even my 47RH. If I were going to order one for plowing it would NOT have an Aisin.
