Stefan - I work in the oil field running computers. When they work good I don't have too. When they don't the rig stops drilling and they loose $5000 per hour. Not much pressure in my job. . :D Now let me tell you about the pay... ... ... .

Oh ya... I also work two weeks on and two weeks off..... the two weeks on I am on an Island in the Arctic Ocean far above the Arctic Circle... . matter a fact there was a Polar Bear here today...

Ah. Bill believes in fluid coupling under power. Doesn't the DTT converter unlock under ... light to moderate acceleration? If so, this *could* explain Kat's observation that he never sees more than 125 RPM drop when the clutch engages.

Not to rain on Stefan's parade but mine doesn't unlock under full throttle in O/D so I have to watch it not to cod it at 1400 in lockup (no pump speed... . that's why I have an unlock floor switch) Now in direct it will unlock at any speed or RPM after about 1/2 throttle. I don't have a controller but it's on my list, I want to be able to control 4th and lockup speeds.

Mopar-muscle,

Yup, Yup, Yup, that would be me and the many private e-mails I get from people not wanting to get into the ******* match with you guys.

From the other thread; how did your phone call go:rolleyes:

Ron

P. S. You still haven't made up your mind if you want me to post my signature with every post.

ron , i didn't get a chance to ask bill why you have a hair across your *** .

as far as your sig , it's long and annoying , like most of your posts :-laf

Mopar, how does this happen without some sort of controller on the transmission? If the stock PCM is being used it does not care what the differential is between the engine speed and the trans input shaft speed. I am very curious to how this is done.

If I am wrong about the 125 RPM in all cases I will sincerely apologize, I would just like to know how this is accomplished.

lsmith , i can't really say how it happens , it just does . i'm a bit off though , its not really designed in , it just does it .

i only have a TC saver , it just unlocks the TC at a setpoint , one of the things it has is a light that comes on when the PCM sends the signal to the TC to lock . but the funny part is the TC does not lock when you have your foot in it hard , i don't have to be at WOT , there is a slight delay even at light throttle . i have my tc saver set so it only unlocks when i have my foot on the floor . i can be at 3/4 throttle accelerating hard in third , the light comes on , the trans shifts into 4th , i let up on the throttle some , the TC locks .

2000 and newer the PCM locks the TC in third then shifts to OD locked , the DTT TC defies the PCM control, it did the same thing before i installed the TC saver .

hey thats a good one ... i can assure you that i need not reassure myself that i did NOT make a mistake ...

TC is working as designed , the stock dodge transmission is working as designed , guess which one needs to be rebuilt at this point in time ???

here's a hint , its not the aftermarket product :-laf

Lock-up

My rpm drop or rise is still 125rpm no matter. Now understand I'm not trying to start some more:-{} ; however, figuring that 2800rpm is full power that would come out to 95. 5 percent efficiency for the t/c and valvebody,?

This is the wrinkle-JConly said he had a 350-450 rise or drop, so using the same formula, his t/c efficiency would be 83. 9285percent. Probably not bad for a milled stator. Sounds like my "ole" bd

I do know for sure that the egt are lower unlocked in 4th or locked in 3rd. About 125 deg. Ofcourse the rpm is higher.

So both sides are right. Now if we could only get people who THINK they know everything to quit shoving information down other people's throats, this would be a much nicer place to hang out.

And maybe, just maybe, we could all learn more.

I guess this is where I come in. I don't know JACK about automatic transmissions and every time I think I do, someone posts just the opposite of what I thought I understood and I am more confused then when I started. But you guys are still a lot of fun to watch :-{} :-{}

Here is another one on RPM drop, yesterday morning same stretch of road I drive every day went from 4th at 1950 to locked down to 1675, then today on the same stretch went from 2150 to 1950 holding steady throttle and that was about 65 MPH. It's obvious the 89 converter get's much more efficent quick, and it gets almost un-noticeable at really high RPM (2800)

mopar-muscle,

At least I have hair:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

I too am seeing things in the same light. I am very happy with my auto and the associated performance parts installed at DTT. They treat me like family. Since my last injector upgrade my truck will lay a scratch under wot in second gear if I am not in 4X4, and yes I have limited slip. :p Thanks to DTT my times went from 18s into the 13s in the quarter. (And thats not with the NOS on. ) Which is far better than I ever expected when I started my bombing campaign. I don't know about how much the other automatic tranys will take outside of BD and DTT, as they are the only ones I have witnessed making serious power during the dyno events in my area. (Over 500 H. P. ) What I do know is I have no regrets about who I chose to go with.

I have a DTT setup in my truck. i am truely amazed at how much HP it can hold up to. I am pretty hard on my auto, with plowing, towing, and drag racing all on the same truck at 400+hp. I have talked enough to Bill and crew to know that I made a good choice, and have no regrets. I have the 89 TC,and it sure does put the power down to the ground. Mine will not lock under hard power either, its designed that way, even though i throw the mystery switch on,it still wont lock until i ease up on the throttle a bit, then itll lock, then you can put the hammer back down, and it will stay locked up like a normal TC after that. You cannot force a DTT TC to look up,under WOT,it just wont go in no matter what until you ease up a little bit.
