Nathan...

Great idea about splicing the wire! I have mine located under the dash where unless you're up-side-down, you can't even see it! Mine has never been touched, although I wouldn't trust many people in Albuquerque not to try at some point in time.

Awhile back I heard about something called a "Shocker System" made by some Bubbas down in 'bama (I believe) and it said something out loud, counted down for 3 seconds, then nailed you with quite a large jolt of "justice" as they called it! Supposedly it had sensors on the locks, glass, ignition switch, hood release, steering column and I believe they had an optional add-on for tool-boxes and such. If I remember correctly, it ran for +/- $3k. Anybody know more about this???

wow..

I just finished reading these posts. . sure am happy to hear your pride and joy is back home!

It would suck having to go thru what you did! The worst things I've had happen (so far) is someone broke in thru the sliding window and stole some loose change.

And once someone stole my tailgate right off the back of my truck while I was out of town at work! The truck was in the airport parking lot!

Right now I don't even have an alarm on my truck because I hate hearing them go off all the time on other people's vehicles, and nobody does anything about it! Too many false alarms.

I need to start thinging about engineering a kill switch or fuel cutoff that is convenient to use so I don't lose my baby as well!

Glad to hear your truck is back!

Glad to hear that you got your truck back. Once I read that you were from here in Omaha, it freaked me out as well. I live in Omaha as well.

If you want to see the Cowl Hood, I've got one on my truck for you to see locally. My trucks is basically a red version of yours.

I have an alarm on mine, one of the basic Viper models. You can set them so that it takes a pretty hard shock to chirp them, doors to trip it, and have a starter kill. The starter kill is what I was after, plus the door sensors. I get paranoid with almost $2000 worth of audio in the cab:D

Just something to think about.

Were the keys still in the door pocket when the truck was recovered?

It always amazes me that theives and car-park dudes steal loose change... ...

Joel, glad you got it back. Stolen out of your garage and found 2 miles from your house with a dented hood from someone walking on it. I would look at the kids that live within a block of your house. I think you will find the thief. This was a crime of opportunity and whoever stole it wanted to be able to walk home. Plus they knew the area and your habits really well. Most auto thieves are not going to steal a truck out of a garage in a suburban setting (based on the picture of your truck) and then try and hide it 2 miles away. These were joyriders. Punk kids. I would look at 13-15 year olds that don't have much supervision.

What do most use as a kill switch that is easy to engage and disengage?

Something like a relay to cut the power to something really important to even begin to start the truck?

Starter kill? ECM disable? PCM disable?

We fight the vehicle computers enough to think we could use them to our advantage.

Hey Joel, glad to hear you got your truck back. Guys, would that fule shut off valve work on a 12 valve? Where do you think would be the best place to tap into? That's a good concept because the would be thief has to move your truck in order for it to be auto theft, I love the thought of coming out just to see your truck starting to drive off with punks in it laughing and you stand there calm watching then all of a sudden the mighty Cummins shuts off, while you stroll over to the punks with your 2x4 or pipe and make them never..... EVER... want to do anything like that again:) .

I put a kill switch on my '95. It is very well hidden. I connected it to the Fuel Shut-off solenoid ground wire. It works great. I also have a Lo-Jack on my truck, so if somebody Flatbeds it or tows it, I can still get it back.

I learned this the hard way. Back in 1991 I had a completely restored '54 Chebby 1/2 ton taken from in front of a friend's house. Never saw it again.

I also have a Lo-Jack on my truck

Could you give me an idea as to how much this system costs (initial price as well as monthly fee)? The insurance companies never give you anywhere near the value of the vehicle. Thanks,

Hood

You can see my hood in the pic below, it's a reflectix.

Also, I have the whole wiring harness from my "02 if your interested.

Oooops!

Forrest, the inside of that guardrail fence is now coal black!:-laf :-laf

Can't wait till CA starts smog testing trucks:D

Hey all, I got the truck re-keyed last week, because one set of keys were missing. Took it to the so-called "5 star" dealer just north of town, to have the work done. That was a mistake, ended up taking two days and $500!!!! which insurance won't cover. I had checked on prices through conventional locksmiths, but I thought something like this would be better left to mopar. Truck goes in on the 9th of sept to have body fixed, haven't decided if I like the cowl hood yet. Finally, got the factory radio put back in, truck almost back to normal, Im still frazzled though:)

Dresselred, I paid $700 for the Lojack plus another $100 for an unlimited extended warranty plus Ca. State tax. About $850 all together. There are no monthly fees for Lojack.

After my original 54 was stolen, I bought another 54 and restored it also. I put Teletrac on that truck, which does have a monthly fee. Then about 4 years later the Teletrac unit puked out on me and I had to buy another one... that is why I bought the unlimited extended warranty!

As I recall the Teletrac monthly fees were about $12-15 a month.

Do an Internet search for Lojack, and will find it cheaper than what I paid. I was under the gun a bit, because Hispanic gang members had set my alarm off several times in the middle of the night, and I felt I had to act fast.

Thanks for the info, Robert. I was unaware that there were no monthly fees. Sounds better all the time. How do you know that it is still working ten years down the road?

There is no easy way to check a Lojack that I am aware of. They won't tell you where in the truck they place it, and they want you to leave the location where they are installing it, so you won't know where it is. Presumably that's so people won't screw around with them and accidently disable them. However, I came back early, and saw the installer putting something up into the headliner--could have been the antenna--don't know.

They do suggest you call them and have a tech come out and check it every 2 years. They do charge I believe about $70 for this.

Thanks again. Bet I can find it! ;)

I was watching an episode of "cops" where a job site portable generator was stolen. Little did the thief know, but it had been equipped with a Lojack which led the police to his locked garage.
