hi all

dads 95 two wheel drive died today and this is what it does, it will start running when the key is in start position once you let off to run position it dies so had it towed to shop and he said there is a solenoid on the pump that went bad and dealer wants 565 smackers for it does anyone have a used one or know where the best place to buy one thanks mike

Have someone hold the Fuel shutoff solenoid in the up position. If it stays running you've found the problem. I think at this point it's most likely the solenoid. Could also be the relay and/or starter contacts.

Replace the fuel shutoff solenoid and starter contacts at the same time. When worn, the contacts can take out the starter. Not cheap!

Agree with purchase from Larry B.

Check the cheap stuff first. The relay is most likely the problem. A new one is about $10 or so. The blue wire on the positive post of the driver side battery is the next most likely problem. It can be corroded, loose, or broken. Fixing it is free. The fuel solenoid seldom fails.

Unfortunately it sounds like the hold up coil on the fuel shut off solenoid took a dump but could be broken wire or igniton switch.

Your pull up coil is working. The blue wire and relay are for the pull up coil.

Turn ignition to run (on) and push up on rod of fuel shut off solenoid if it doesn't stay up. Check wire/connections/ignition switch.

Same symptoms happened to my 95. Turned out to be the protective boot on the bottom of the solenoid. The boot fell apart and jammed the solenoid plunger and spring. I removed the boot and coated the plunger with anti-seize and it worked fine for about 5 years. The plunger "tip" finally got worn to the point of not working and I replaced the whole assembly with a cable. Pull to shut-down, push in to start. The solenoid boot is also available, I think from Larry B.
